  2. Agenda • What is RMP? • Product Series • RMP Features • LCA comparison of RMP and Pulp Paper • Paper Industry Brief (China & Taiwan) • Contribution of 360,000 tons/yr of RMP to the Earth • World 2005 Water Resource Usage • Comparison of RMP and Pulp Paper • Features of LM Synthetic Paper (SP) & Synthetic Thermoform (TS) • Key Points

  3. What is RMP? • Not Pulp Paper • Not Plastic Film • We call it RMP (China calls it RMB!) RichMineralPaper Main Ingredient are Mineral Contents Paper Products >55%i.e., stone CaCO3Premium Printing Paper Fibreless Synthetic Paper

  8. RMP Features: Paper Industry Brief (China & Taiwan) • Man-made forest tree types: Mainly Eucalyptus trees. • Plantation Time: After 8 years, Eucalyptus trees can be harvested to make pulp. Exon Science Inc. used genetic engineering technology to shorten growing time to 3.5years. Such technology is now owned by Oji Paper. • Plantation Density: High density plantation: 300~666 trees/acre = 4,500~10,000 trees/hectare. High production volume, but destroys forest ecology. Low density plantation: 100~150 trees/acre = 1,500~2,250 trees/hectare. Low production volume but maintains forest ecology. • Green Desert: High density plantation causes lack of grass growth. Moreover, excess fertilization and insect sprays destroys forest ecology. There are no grass growth, no insects, no bird. It is like a desert except that it looks green!

  9. RMP Features: Paper Industry Brief (China & Taiwan) • Modern man made forest has improved plantation density combining with rotation plantation program and harvesting programs to maintain forest’s ecology. i.e., harvesting 1 tree out of every 6 trees, and replant the harvested tree. • Canton LeiZhou’s Eucalyptus plantation improved from 0.3m3/acre to 1.5m3/acre (4.5m3/hectare ~ 22.5m3/hectare). • “China is buying the World’s forest”. In 2004, China imported 24.5 million tons of pulp, waste paper, paper products, which is equivalent of 100million m3 of trees. This is equivalent to (100,000,000m3 / 22.5m3/hectare = 4.5 million hectare) 45,000 km2 of forest which is equivalent to 1.25 of Taiwan is bought by China. .Refereneces: 1.Oriental Daily – APP Report. 2.China Materials Tropical Institute, Report by Professor Xu Da Ping. 中國材料院熱帶雨林研究所,徐大平教授著作。 3.China South-West Forest Institute Vice Dean, Report by Profess Yang Yu Ming. 中國西南林學院副院長,楊宇明教授著作。 4.China Guang Xi National Ecology Industrial Report. 中國廣西貴港國家生態工業報告。 5.China Paper Industry Report. 中國造紙工業行業報告。 6.Economic Daily Newspaper. 經濟日報。 7.United Daily Newspaper. 聯合報。

  10. RMP Features: Contribution of 360,000 tons/yr of RMP to the Earth 1. Save 1.26 million m3 of wood chips. 2. Save 56,000 hectares (840,000 acres). 3. Save 336 million trees. Note: 1. 1,748 wood chips/1ton of paper ×360,000 tons = 629,300 tons of wood chips ÷ 0.5tons/m3=1.26 million m3 2. 1.26 million m3 ÷ 22.5 m3/hectare = 56,000 hectares ÷ 100 hectare/km2= 560km2 3. 56,000 hectares × 6,000 trees/hectare= 336 million trees

  11. RMP Features: Contribution of 360,000 tons/yr of RMP to the Earth 4. Save 29.23 million m3 of water (45,000 people’s 1 year consumption). 5. Save 128.8 million kwh of electrical energy. 6. Reduce CO2 Release by 210,000 tons/yr . Note: 4. 81.2 m3/ton × 360,000 tons/yr = 29.23 million m3 ÷ 660 m3/person per year = 45,000 people / year. 5. (2,502,000 – 1,702,000) kcal/ton ÷ 2236 kcal/kwh × 360,000 tons/yr=128.8 million kwh 6. 1093 – 500 kg/ton × 360,000 tons/yr = 210,000 tons CO2 /yr

  12. RMP Features:World 2005 Water Resource Usage

  13. RMP Features:Comparison of RMP and Pulp Paper 1. Complement each other 2. Short term GOAL – Paper Market Pulp Paper 80% RMP 20% Long term GOAL – Paper Market Pulp Paper 50% RMP 50% 3. RMP’s advantages to Pulp paper • Waterproof, Mist proof, Grease proof, Antimoth • Physical strength (especially tear resistant, high fold durability)

  14. RMP Features:Comparison of RMP and Pulp Paper 4. Usage & Differences • Hand Bag (High Strength) • Woven Bag (Waterproof) • Note book (Tear resistant) • Freezer food packaging (Waterproof, Durable under low temperature) • Fruit Bag (Antimoth, Prevent use of insecticide) • Billboard advertisement (Waterproof) • Map (Waterproof, High fold durability) • Label paper (Waterproof) • Books (Low density, Reduce carrying weight for children)

  15. Features of LM Synthetic Paper (SP) & Synthetic Thermoform (TS) • Multilayer structure. Both sides coated with plastic film. • Multilayer structure with rich content of mineral powder: • Reduces the use of plastic. Consequently, reduce the damage to our environment. • Reduces material cost. • Coated with pure non toxic HDPE, can be used for food applications and packaging. On the other hand, most current red/black food boxes uses recycled plastic material. This raises the question whether current food boxes suitable for food packaging?

  16. Features of LM Synthetic Paper (SP) & Synthetic Thermoform (TS) • With film coating, SP&TS are totally waterproof, and can be used for heat sealing applications ; Heat sealing is useful for food packaging, because it can prolong food freshness. Freezer foods packaging is the most suitable. • After usage, the treatment is easier than 100% plastic containers. • Can be recycled to be reused. Similar to plastic. • Can be burnt in the furnace. Since SP and TS has rich mineral content, so when it burns easily without black smoke. Compared to pure plastic products, SP & TS do not require high melting temperature, so will not cause damages to the furnace. • Can be degraded in trash yard. For 100% plastic products, it will not rot. On the other hand, SP & TS has rich content of mineral powder, so that when it is buried and with increase in ground temperature, SP & TS’s internal structure will start to break and degrade.

  17. Key Points • New innovative invention • Meets new generation’s need (do not use trees, do not use water, energy efficient, reduces CO2) • Within 10 year, RMP will be on the same plane as Pulp Paper
