  1. RRTC Rocky Mountain Mining (RMM) v1-May 2009 This single Power Point file contains all the material you will need for this variant. You will need to own the game Railroad Tycoon to play this variant. Page 2 has the variant rules. Pages 3-10 have eight maps that fit together. The maps are designed to fit perfectly on a 20x30 inch piece of foam board. Simply print the maps, cut them out, and fit them together on the foam board. The maps overlap, making it easier to tape them together. You may wish to use the full sheet Avery label paper. But I have had good luck with using simple copier paper and taping the maps together and onto the foam board. Page 11-17 are the Bonus and Operations Cards used in RMM. Page 18 are summary cards which each player can use to check on the city connections and bonus points for each of the 5 Major Lines bonus cards. By referencing these cards, you can save table space and stack the actual 5 Major Line cards together off to one side, until a line is completed. Page 19-23 is a score sheet/bidding/turn order board with instructions.

Railroad Tycoon - Rocky Mountain Mining (RMM) Rules • Background • Rocky Mountain Mining is a semi historical variant, which covers the southwest states of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah in the late 1800’s. It highlights the golden age of mining and the completion of several major railroads. It includes “Mining” hexes in addition to “City” hexes. The mining hexes hold white cubes (use a white cubes from another game) that represent different valuable resources and they can only be delivered to “market” cites which have a green star and also happen to be all the red cities. Mine cubes are treated like cities and included for game end purposes. Game end is triggered by empty cities and mines per basic RRTC rules • Drawing Cubes • Draw cubes for all the cities and place the white mine cubes in the mine hexes (green hex). • Building • Players may build only 3 hexes of track per Action, unless they hold the Perfect Engineer card. • Building in a Green hex costs $3000. • Building in a Mountain hex costs $6000. • Building across a Mountain Ridge hexside (Brown) costs +$6000. • Cards • All cards with an are “Start” cards and should have a red backing. Yellow cards should have a yellow backing. Pink, Purple, and Green cards should have a green backing. Blue cards should have a blue backing. I suggest you place the cards in appropriate colored card protectors after printing and cutting to size. • Railroad Tycoon Bonus Cards • Lay out N+1 Blue bonus cards at the beginning of the game. These are scored at the end of the game. Ties are scored by dividing the bonus points between the tied players, rounded down. • Railroad Operations Cards • Divide the yellow deck into cards with letter “A” and those without. Shuffle each deck separately, then combine them into one deck with “A” cards on top. Place deck face down on table. Shuffle green backing deck, lay out 2N green cards, plus the red backing "Start" cards. Place remaining green cards face down on table. • At the start of each turn after turn one, lay out 1 new Green and 2 new Yellow cards. (N = number of players) • Note: • 4 types of new Operation cards are introduced in RMM. The “Stock Buy Back” card allows players to buy back stock. The “New Vein of Ore” provides for the placement of new Mining Cubes in a mine. Mining cubes are placed per die roll and one delivery may be made immediately. The “Mining Begins”card provides a bonus for the first mined good delivered (similar to Railway Operations Begins, except for mining.) And “Majority Ownership” of a Mine provides the card holder a point for each delivery made from the mine (similar to hotels, but in reverse) • 5 “at start” bonus cards are Major Line cards that represent the completion of 5 major historical routes. • A Perfect Engineer card increases the number of track hexes that can be built in an Action by one. A player may own more than one Perfect Engineer, and use more than one per action. • The New Industry card DOES NOT add two new goods to the Urbanized City. • Map Errata • Cannon City does not have track symbols to the north or south and you may not build track in these directions. This represents “Royal Gorge”. • The dark brown hexes with an “X” represent the Grand Canyon and you may not build track on these hexes. • The 3 white circles on the west edge of the board are for scoring rounds. You may not build on them. • The track hexes drawn on the east and west sides of the board are decorative only. They help identify the major lines. You may build track on these hexes. • Misc. • I recommend you use the alternate bidding and turn order rules when playing this game. (See page 19)

  11. Alternate Score Board, Bidding, Turn Order board Pages 20-23 are a scoreboard/bidding/and turn order board used for this game. Cut out the four sheets and tape or glue them to a piece of card board. The card board should be 15 1/4 in by 12 in and will fit perfectly into your RRTC game box. Score no’s 95-100 are missing from the board for space reasons. Follow the instruction in the lower right corner if anyone reaches this score. This board uses an alternative Bidding and Turn order system. This bidding system is similar to Evo and Vegas Showdown and is located in the lower left corner. Instructions 1. At start of game, randomly determine order. Place locomotives in Red row. 2. On each turn, conduct bidding in the order of last place bids first. 3. Whenever someone bids on a turn order that already has a bid, the outbid player must immediately bid again. If their bid is placed on an order with an existing bid, that bid immediately bids again. Bidding continues until there are no turn orders with multiple bids and after everyone has bid. 4. Bidding can exceed the numbered spots on board. Simply keep track of bids by changing the orientation of a locomotive, or in some other agreed upon manner. 5. Everyone pays the full amount of their bid.
