  2. What is Cool Schools? Purpose: • To put money back in the classroom • To boost student and teacher performance • To create jobs Created by HB 2960 in 2011 • 4 year pilot

  3. Evolution of Cool Schools:

Phase II Action includes preparing for Phase III Help schools, by addressing “where they are now” • Projects fully scoped: Offer financing and incentives immediately • Projects not yet scoped, but close: Offer rapid turnaround technical and business services • All projects: Low-cost financing and incentives to reduce project cost Lay groundwork for next summer (Phase III of pilot) • Provide longer lead times from information to action

  5. Example from Phase I Klamath County School District • $2.2 million project (Diesel to Geothermal Replacement) • $ 400,000 in PPC account and $ 120,000/year from PPC • $ 167,062/year in avoided energy costs • 3.5% Cool Schools interest rate + 7% matching grant from CEWO ($154,000)

Example from Phase II Proposed Project at Coast Elementary School • $210,000 project (new thermostats, roof insulation, and replacing old windows) • Includes non-energy component (roofing materials) • Uses diesel fuel; boiler is 7 yrs. old • Est. $19,000/year in avoided energy costs (Current bills $42,000/year) • Will reduce on-site energy consumption by 32+% • Cool Schools assisting with audits, project scoping, financing, and grant coordination • 2.5% Cool Schools interest rate (target) + 2% design grant from CEWO ($4,000)
