  1. Mrs. Warren's Profession (1893) Main Characters Vivie Mrs Warren Sir George Crofts Frank Gardener

  2. Summary The heroine of the play Vivie is intelligent and well-educated. On graduating, She returns home and by accident discovers that her mother Mrs Warren's true profession is a part-owner of brothels in several European cities. This gives rise to a sharp conflict between them. Vivie, on the one hand, shows sympathy for her mother's girlhood life under severe economic conditions, on the other hand, feels disgusted at her mother's present way of life in running brothels.

  3. Vivie finally leaves her mother and starts to earn her own living by finding an “ honest ” job in London. Along with the main plot, there are some other plots involving characters like Sir George Crofts — an old aristocrat and Mrs Warren's partner in the running of brothels, and Frank Gardener — a romantic lover — who turns out to be Vivie's half-brother.

  4. Mrs. Warren's Profession is called “ Plays Unpleasant ”. it is Unpleasant to the bourgeois public because Shaw attacks the vices of capitalist society.
