Afya Bora Consortium: Goals • The goals of ABC are to: • Develop a model programmefor preparing future global health leaders • Build sustainable capacity for global health, through training of future leaders, both in developing countries and in northern countries • Enhance practical skills building to lead large health programs • Enhance establishment of a sustainable South-South consortium that can operate an African-based training program Dar es Salaam, July 2014

Trainees and trainers • Inclusion of trainees from Africa and north provide an opportunity for exchange of information and experiences, establish professional relationships and long-term benefits in your future • Involvement of faculty from Africa and USA will maximize resources, experiences and effective partnerships between institutions Dar es Salaam, July 2014

  5. Structure of Module training • Few didactic sessions • Case studies and presentations • Group work • Video conferencing/tapes/CDs • Discussions with local leaders Dar es Salaam, July 2014

Expected outcomes: Module traning • Identify essential competencies associated with set skills • Identify gaps in your leadership experience • Acquire basic knowledge that will assist you in your leadership responsibilities • Acquire skills needed for enhanced leadership and management • Continue to learn and train others • Evaluate your skills in the competencies, identify gaps for further development • Evaluate the modules for the purpose of improving Dar es Salaam, July 2014

Experiential training at attachment sites: Key to success • Respect Primary and Site mentors • Respect all employees of the organization • Respect available infrastructure and use it appropriately • Behave responsibly • Drive the learning process • Open mindedness but strategic and focused • Observant and listen • Communicative Dar es Salaam, July 2014

  8. Expected outcomes: Attachment sites • Experiential training is high priority. You will: • Gain practical experience on how to work effectively with an organization or a team • Identify, design, implement and evaluate a project beneficial to the fellow and site • Prepare a report of the project at the end of each rotation • Provide an evaluation report of the attachment site • Could be a trial for future employment Dar es Salaam, July 2014

Expectations at completions: Fellowship programme management • Report on the processes in the fellowship including: • Advertisement • The application documents • Interview procedures • Notification of successful candidates • Training sites • Logistic support (accommodation, transport etc) • Grant award issues Dar es Salaam, July 2014

What to do at the end of the fellowship? • Fellows in each country are brought together on regular basis by email or in person to: • Provide progress on your projects • Share experiences on leadership change, improvements, conflict resolution, progression etc • Receive mentorship and group instructions • Annual meetings where fellows will make presentations Dar es Salaam, July 2014
