  1. Warm up: Tuesday 10/29/13 • SAT word of the day: Ghoul \gool\; Noun: • Word Root: Halloween loanwords • Arabic, evil spirit that robs graves and feeds on corpses • Take out your worksheet from last class period’s video – Juvenile Justice. • We will be finishing the video today.

  2. Objective • Students will analyze genetics, family influence, socio-economic status, community and peer influence on juveniles in order to determine whether or not juvenile delinquents are born or made.

  3. History of the Juvenile System • SAT word of the day: Seraph \ser-AFF\; noun: • Word Root: Halloween loanwords • Hebrew, a winged, flaming celestial being or angel • Based on what you have read in your particular article, what do you think the author believes is the main factor in creating juvenile delinquents? • Choose from Genetics, family influence, socio-economic status, community, peer influence and explain why.

  4. Objective • Students will analyze genetics, family influence, socio-economic status, community and peer influence on juveniles in order to determine whether or not juvenile delinquents are born or made.

  5. Large group review • Gather with your larger group of classmates that read the same article you did. • Compare your notes. • Take 10 minutes to review. Make sure all members of your larger group have the notes.

  6. Partners • Choose a partner that does NOT have the same reading you do. • Share your findings with your new partner – do NOT just hand them your paper and copy. Discuss what your group learned from the article.

  7. Rankings • Based on all 3 articles (2 you read and 1 you received information from), Rank the influences based on the research. • Genetics • family influence • socio-economic status • Community • peer influence • Explain why you ranked the first influence the way you did.

  8. Essay • Answer the prompt: • Are juvenile delinquents born or made? • Use information from the sources.
