This is an activity developed by Evelyn J. Brouwer (MERLOT).
The purpose of this activity was initially to review six significant philosophical schools in education and their application to real contexts.
To review the major philosophies in education
To become familiar with a variety of teaching theories
Choose three different theories, read about them, and match each one to a philosophy of education: perennialism, existentialism, progressivism, social reconstructionism, humanism, essentialism. There may not be an exact match to aphilosophy, however, choose one and explain your rationale for your matching.
