Learning Activities : Putting into practice - Debate

A debate on putting into practice

A Debate on putting into practice

  • This is an activity developed by Evelyn J. Brouwer (MERLOT).

  • The purpose of this activity was initially to review six significant philosophical schools in education and their application to real contexts.

  • Learning objective:

    • To review the major philosophies in education

    • To become familiar with a variety of teaching theories

  • Tasks:

    • Choose three different theories, read about them, and match each one to a philosophy of education: perennialism, existentialism, progressivism, social reconstructionism, humanism, essentialism. There may not be an exact match to aphilosophy, however, choose one and explain your rationale for your matching.
