Debrief • What were your dominant emotions during this activity? • What were the most difficult aspects of trench warfare? • Why would young men put themselves through these hardships? • What would an experience like this make a soldier think about war? • Why do you think we did this activity? • Has this activity given you any new insights on war? • In what ways do you think your experience was similar to that of World War I soldiers? • In what ways was it different? • Do you think this is a valid way to learn about trench warfare?

Assume the role of a World War I soldier to write a one-page letter describing your experiences in the trenches to a friend or family member back home. • Your letter must include • a date • a proper salutation • and these descriptions: • the fear and anticipation you felt in the trenches • your living conditions and daily life • the methods you used to keep up your morale. • Due at the beginning of the period Thursday • 100 points
