  2. From the Pan African Consultative Forum on Corporate Governance to a Pan African Corporate Governance Center • Background • Objectives • Governing Structure

Background • General Awareness on the Importance of CG • Mandatory role of the AfDB under the NEPAD APRM • Current context: lack & insufficient knowledge & experience sharing among African countries • The Pan African Forum has fulfilled its mandate in raising awareness. However, it was handicaped by its lean and informal structure to do more • Need for a common permanent platform to share information and knowledge

Objectives of the Centre • To serve as an interactive platform of the key African stakeholders to facilitate information & experience sharing, and know-how mobilization • Priorities • Short-term: Facilitate information and knowledge sharing • Long-term:Facilitate implement of harmonised standards of corporate governance; Assisting Pan African Institutions such as the NEPAD/APRM; the AfDB to develop standards of corporate governance as benchmarks.

  5. Deliverables • Short-term (1 year) • website on CG in Africa • active databank (studies, reports…) • database of CG players • Longer-term (2-3years) • activities coordination • resource mobilization

  6. Governance Structure • Lean Secretariat: 2 professionals + 3 support staff • Steering Committee appointed by the « Promoters »: • NEPAD • AfDB • Development Partners • Contributing Specialized Institutions • Time-line: 2 years
