Access to Social Work Services • Behavior concern must be having an impact on school and there should be data to support the concern (ODR’s, grades, attendance) • Social Worker may refer students out for issues that are not affecting academics or for intense/severe issues (sexual abuse, drug/alcohol addiction, cutting, etc.)

  3. Referral is made to the social workerReferral is signed by principal and parent • If special education student: • There must be an INA or IEP meeting where the SW is invited to participate • If general education students: • There must be a problem solving meeting where the SW is invited to participate • If the social worker referral is appropriate, interventions will start at the bottom of the levels of care triangle and increase in intensity as necessary. • Students experiencing crisis may be referred to social worker without going through the referral process. Crisis situations may include but not limited to suicidal, runaway, pregnancy, etc.

Social Work Levels of Care C R I S I S Wraparound Home visits FBA/BIP Individual counseling GROUPS • Targeted • Classroom • Lunch • Anger Management Behavior Support Plan Consultation/ Monitoring Referral to outside agency Mentoring (individual) Check in/Check out (group) Problem Solving Meetings/ I.E.P. Meetings Classroom groups

  5. Social Work Minutes • Minutes on IEP maybe spent: • Face to face with child • Individually • In group • In consultation with teacher or parent • In Check In Check Out with the student • In planning and coordinating FBA/BIP or wraparound • Though home visits • In consultation with another agency • In crisis
