Rationale • Facilitate ColegauCymru/CollegesWales’ commitment to raising standards in the post-16 lifelong learning sector • Fulfil Welsh Assembly Government’s policy to enhance the professional knowledge, skills and performance of staff with leadership and management responsibilities in the learning and skills sector

  3. Accord with recommendations of Webb Report: Promise and Performance • Improve the quality of leadership and management in areas identified by Estyn inspection reports and DCELLS Quality and Effectiveness Framework • Address leadership and management skills needs to further professionalise the workforce in line with the work of the National Occupational Standards for Leadership and Management

  4. Features • Modular – Single (Level 7) Postgraduate Award • Flexible • Professionally relevant • Mentoring and Tutorial support • A taught, practice-based programme • Assignment-based assessment

  5. Target Audience First line curriculum and functional managers with responsibility for a designated area of work, a team, or a group of people. The programme may also be of interest to aspiring first line managers.

  6. Structure – this one year course provides opportunity for participants to develop a comprehensive set of skills, knowledge and understanding, along with critical application

  7. Assessment Completion of a written assignment of approximately 5,000 words per module

  8. Delivery Model • 4 separate days’ attendance per module per term • Pattern: approaches considered • half-day per week provision over an 8 week period • one day per week over a 4 week period • 2 x 2 day intensive block provision • Blended Learning • a significant characteristic of the programme will include the provision of on-line learning support materials • case studies • video-conferencing • discussion boards

  9. Admission Candidates will normally possess a recognised first degree or equivalent qualification. Candidates without such qualifications but with appropriate professional experience will be considered on an individual basis.

  11. Mentoring and Tutoring Each participant will be allocated a personal tutor to act as a mentor on assignment work. Participants will be supported by links to University of Glamorgan on-line resources, including library
