  1. CHAPTER 6: SEXUAL BEHAVIORS Presented by: Alix Ayzza Jenny Suzan

  2. Historical Perspective M-wordmasturbation as discussed in William H. Walling’s book, Sexology. • Leads to sickness, wasting, and eventually death for both genders. • For women, masturbation was frowned upon. • weakness and loss of flesh, absence of freshness and beauty, bluish circles around the eyes, etc. • More than a century after Sexology, masturbation was accepted as a sexual activity. • Masturbation, like all other sexual activities, is a personal choice

  3. Your Sexual Comfort Zone A Sexual Opinion Survey (SOS) measures and studies the reactions of individuals to sexual issues and behaviors. Erotophobia(narrow comfort) - Erotophilia(more open) An SOS score is important in determining your sexual feelings and attitudes. The Sexual Inhibition and Sexual Excitation Scales (SIS/SES) measures individual differences in sexual response patterns.

  4. Solitary & Shared Sexual Behaviors Most common sexual activities: sexual fantasy, masturbation. Personal &solitary activities can be more safe than shared. Sexual intimacy can be one of life’s most profound &enjoyable experiences if you are confortable, confident, informed, &safe in the choices you make.

  5. Sexual Fantasy • Positive Functions • Provides a safe sexual outlet • Enhances arousal • Relieves boredom • Treats sexual problems • Relieves sexual anxiety, guilt and doubt

  6. When Sexual Fantasies Cause Problems • Creates a great deal of guilt and worry • Can become so dominant, that they interfere with the activities of daily life • When sharing fantasy with partner, may have negative impact on relationship • May have fantasies of “forbidden” or illegal sexual acts

  7. Enhancing Your Relationship • Sexual boredom and loss of sexual desire is a common problem • Share and experiment with each other’s sexual fantasies • Able to discover whether some of them might add some variety and spice to your sexual life with partner

  8. Masturbation • Sexual activities performed on oneself, typically focusing on stimulation of genitals to orgasm.

  9. Masturbation Within an Intimate Relationship • Assumptions • Must be a sign of dissatisfaction with one’s partner • People masturbate only when they don’t have a sexual partner • People who masturbate are sexually deprived • Masturbation is an outlet for people who do not have any other form of sexual release • Instead of substituting for sex with a partner, masturbation is typically part of a healthy sexual life regardless of an individual’s relationship status

  10. Masturbation Techniques • Aspects of experiences • Privacy • Time • Sexual self-awareness • Arousal • Orgasm • Artificial lubrication • Vibrations

  11. Techniques of Stimulation • Position • Lying face up • Sitting/kneeling • Standing • Touch • Men: grasp, stroke • Women: touch, stroke, rub, massage

  12. Erotic Touch • Erotic touch: intimate or sexual touching between partners, usually with hands, for the purpose of sexual arousal and sharing sexual or sensual pleasure. • Often referred to as foreplay—a common misconception. • Foreplay: a wide variety of erotic stimulation that precedes “real” sex or sexual intercourse. • Emphasis on the emotional connection with your partner. • Touching with intent & paying attention to your partner’s reactions

  13. Activities • Kissing • Sensual massage • Caressing of the breast and nipples • Genital touching • Any type of touch in any location of the body that may be sexy and arousing to couples.

  14. 6 Steps to a Sexy Massage • MAKE SOME SPACE • An ideal massage area is firm, flat & stable • Emphasis on comfort • BREAK OUT THE OIL • Reduces friction, allows for better massage capability, & makes it easier to alleviate tired & stressed out muscles • Opt for a lightly scented oil • Warm the bottle of oil in hot water prior • CREATE A PEACEFUL VIBE • No distractions • Tie hair back & wear close-fitting attire • Drape partner’s body with a sheet & slowly uncover the parts of the body being worked on • Keep music slow & soft

  15. 6 Steps to a Sexy Massage 4) PICK A SPOT, ANY SPOT • Concentrate on a focal point or two • Ask your partner where he/she would like to be massaged 5) GET HANDS ON • Compression: Lay one hand flat, press the other hand on top of it, & rotate slowly. • Stroking: Keep fingers together, thumbs parallel, & palms in full contact with massage area, & make long, gentle movements. Apply more pressure towards the heart & less away from it. • Kneading: Lift & squeeze the area, with palms in full contact of partner’s skin. • Friction: Done without oil to loosen up deep muscle tissue. Anchor the massage area with one hand, & use the other to deeply press or rub. Use fingers for smaller areas. 6) FOCUS ON THE FEELINGS • “The quality of your touch is more important than technique.”

  16. Tantric Sex— A different approach to sex altogether • Tantra: a spiritual practice of harnessing the energetic resources of heaven & earth to bring about enlightened consciousness within the body. • The liberation or expansion of the consciousness • An increase sense of self awareness • Tantric sex: involves two souls coming together rather than two bodies seeking relief. • Focuses on the relationship between sexuality & spirituality • Involves relaxation rather than performance • Long-lasting lovemaking • Considered to be a genuine “Fountain of Youth”

  17. Activity • Do you remember gazing into your lover’s eyes when you first met? • Spend time sitting across from each other in Indian-style position, looking into each other’s eyes for 5-10 minutes. • The goal is to let desire build before it boils over.

  18. Oral Sex • Cunnilingus: oral sex performed on a female. • Labia, clitoris and/or the vagina • Fellatio: oral sex performed on a male. • Head & shaft of the penis • Common practice of both heterosexuals & homosexuals • Incorporated as part of a couple’s foreplay meant to heighten sexual arousal prior to penetration & intercourse. • Orgasm simply through the activity itself • Not everyone engages in it • Hygienic concerns • Societal taboos • Individual sexual preferences, personal beliefs & concerns

  19. Anal Copulation • Anal intercourse: a sexual position in which the penis is inserted through the partner’s anus into the rectum. • Performed by heterosexuals & homosexuals alike • Anilingus: oral stimulation of the anus.

  20. Views On Anal Sex • Not a widely accepted practice • Personal preferences, beliefs, and/or other issues • Social taboo • Morally unethical • Carries a negative social stigma • Attachment of labels on the individual • High-risk behavior associated with the transmission of STIs • Lack of education & awareness • Insufficient amount of healthcare professionals trained in performing anal pap smears

  21. “You better check yo self before you wreck yo self”by protecting yo self—Ice Cube • Wear a condom to prevent the transmission of STIs • Use proper lubrication • Hygiene • Wash your hands before & after any sexual activity • Change condoms after every use • Avoid vaginal stimulation or intercourse until hands, mouth, and/or penis have been washed thoroughly. • Let your doctor know about your sexual history/experiences

  22. And most importantly… Don’t forget to… • Be open-minded but stay true to your beliefs • Respect your partner • Don’t force or pressure him/her • Always communicate with your partner!

  23.
