  1. Year 5 Newsletter for Term 6 The topic for term 6 is ‘20th Century Heroes’ and we will be learning about people from different walks of life each week, such as Literature, Sport, Science, Art and Music. In ICT we will be continuing to program using Scratch – and if your child wishes to extend their learning at home, they can continue to use the freely downloadable version. Within Science, we will be bringing together the learning that has taken place during the year in our Survival Unit. As part of this, we are visiting Shorne Woods Country Park. We were inundated with offers of help from parents and would like to extend our deepest thanks for the support. We had to choose names ‘out of a hat’ and have written to the successful parents separately. We continue to encourage the children to read on a daily basis and to complete their reading logs. They do receive house points for regular reading and completed entries. Regular reading practise, regardless of ability, is essential to maintain progress and develop children’s intonation and expression. It will also help them develop their writing. We would therefore be grateful if you could reinforce this focus at home. Both classes will have PE lessons on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons as usual. The amount of children who are not brining any kit to school has increased and we would like to stress that children must have full PE kits in order to take part in this statutory part of the curriculum - they will need named PE shorts, T-shirts and plimsolls.
