  3. Three Counseling Contacts • Three appointments that are set up by the student • No new students will be seen at MVC for counseling appointment. Students need to go to SJC for counseling. • Appointments are to be 3-4 weeks apart. • Counseling appointments are for: • Discussing career issues that will help you develop your goals. • Discussing personal issues that interfere with your goals. • Developing educational plans that will fulfill your goals.   4. DATES FOR Fall 2012 CONTACTS • Counseling Contact should be completed by: • August 13th to September 28th, 2012 (First Contact) • October 1st to October 26th, 2012 (Second Contact) • October 29th to December 21st, 2012 (Third & Fourth Contact) Revised 2012 kk

What do you bring to counseling contact appointments • EOPS students should always bring: • Recent copy of educational plans • ASSIST- Transfer materials • Program Information for the Associate degree • Program information for the certificates • YOUR EOPS FOLDER (if you do not have one, let me know in our first contact) Revised 2012 kk

Why do you bring these items to all your contacts • You should always have a copy of your “academic road map”. • Will help you understand what you need to take each semester. • If we need to change anything, we can change it at the same time, and together. • Helps you keep up with important paperwork, and stay focused on your goals.   7. Dates for Fall 2012Counseling Contacts • Counseling Contact should be completed by: • September 13th to September 28th, 2012 - First Contact • October 1st to October 26th, 2012 - Second Contact • October 29th to December 21st, 2012 - Third & Fourth Contact Revised 2012 kk

  8. What is Walk-In Advising • Everyday, the counselor will have a minimum of 1.5 hours of walk-in times per day. • Walk-in advising is for: • Quick questions • Making request • Crisis students (students in immediate need of emotional help). Revised 2012 kk

  9. What you can not do in a walk-in session • Make a contact • Review the education plan • Re-write the education plan • Discuss career decision making Revised 2012 kk

Priority Registration • EOPS/CARE students have the opportunity for priority registration. • You need to register during your Priority Date, or by the end of that week (if you have holds…) • Students in the EOPS/CARE program register before general registration begins for Fall and Spring semesters. • You should never have a difficult time selecting classes unless you procrastinate. • Due to California Budget Crisis, the college is offering • Less and less classes, and classes close up quickly, so priority registration is even more important. Book Voucher • EOPS provides book vouchers to qualified students to assist with the purchase of one or more of their required text books. • You can only purchase required text books! • No supplemental books • Nursing uniforms • Art/lab/ or any other types of supplies • Book Voucher will be available August 20th, 2012. • Last day to pick up your book voucher is September 14, 2012. Book Voucher (continued) • In order to get use your voucher for Fall 2012: • Enrolled in 12 units (if you are on a waiting list, that does not count). • Be in DSPS and have a current stress test form in your files, that indicates minimum # of units to take. • Have a waiver of 12 units completed (the director and/or a counselor will decided if you need one). • Until you show proof of 12 units, you will be unable to get your books, parking permit, or SGA sticker.   14. How to get your SGA and Parking: • You need to pay for the TRANSPORTATION fee ($6.00) before requesting your SGA and Parking. • After orientation you must order your SGA and parking on-line. You must order these before 2:00pm on the day of the orientation. • Or the following day before 2:00pm if your orientation ends after 2:00pm. Revised 2012 kk

SGA and Parking (continued) • After 5 business days, you will receive your parking permit in the mail; you can go to the cashier, Bookstore, or cafeteria to pick up the SGA sticker. • Last day to request SGA and Parking is September 14thor you will have to pay out of pocket after that date.   16. Grounds for Probation from EOPS • 1. If you have one “no-show” per semester. • 2. Did not bringing in your educational plan for your contact appointments • 3. Dropping a class without counselor approval (If you are unable to speak with the counselor in person, please email the counselor, or leave a voice message). • 4. Not using “priority registration” on the specific date set aside for EOPS/CARE students (if you should have any “holds”, please see Enrollment Services for more information). • 5. Changes to your name, address, phone, without informing EOPS/CARE. Revised 2012 kk

  17. Beginning Spring 2013 • Students on EOPS Probation will not receive any monetary services. i.e. Book Vouchers, Parking permit, SGA stickers, Starter-kits, EOPS grants, Child care grants, any of monetary values. • Students will continue to receive Counseling Services • Budget cut, required us to have strict guidelines Revised 2012 kk

  18. Grounds for Dismissal fromEOPS • 1. If you have 2 “no-shows” in a semester for your counseling contact appointments. • 2. Have not declared a major or academic goal, by the end of your second semester in EOPS/CARE. • 3. Registering for a class that is not within your academic goal, educational plan, or prior approval by the EOPS/CARE counselor. Revised 2012 kk

  19. Conditions for Dismissal(Continued) • 4. Dropping all courses, without counselor’s guidance. • 5. If you failed probation status from the previous semester. 6. If you do not follow counselor’s guidance, from semester to semester. Revised 2012 kk

  20. Goals for these changes: • 1. Encourage completion of your goals. • 2. Encourage a sense of responsibility. • 3. Encourage better choices each semester. Revised 2012 kk

  21. Some reasons students have used for failing their responsibilities • Court Cases • Relationship issues • Child-care issues • Moving in the middle of the semester • Funerals • Car trouble • Not likening the class you are enrolled in • Homelessness • Family crisis Revised 2012 kk
