  1. Day 1 Planning to Achieve CCSS Implementation Goals Team Planning Days 1 – 4: An Overview General Session

  2. Purpose of the Week The purpose of this week is not only to provide you with the critical elements of the CCSS but also to allow you to engage with your team members and with other schools and districts in a facilitated planning and problem-solving process in order to implement and integrate the Common Core in an effective and sustainable way.

  3. Reflection, Content and Planning Activities • Daily Personal Reflection Journal • Daily Planning and Problem Solving Sessions • End of Days 1-3 • Strategic Plan Development • Day 4

  4. Using the Personal Reflection Journal • Respond in writing to the questions within the Personal Reflection Journalfor general and breakout sessions. • Share your information during your team’s planning and problem-solving activities at the end of each day. • All of the planning and problem-solving materials are aligned assist you and your team in creating meaningful results that can then be used as component parts of your School Improvement Plan (SIP) or District Improvement and Assistance Plan (DIAP).

Daily Reflection Journal:Engaging the General Session • Personal reflections and processing you can use to organize your thoughts and feelings about what is happening each day in your sessions. • Process Questions • “What is consistent with what I already know?” • “What new information am I processing?” • “What changes are making me uncomfortable?” • “What beliefs will I have to release in order to overcome my discomfort?” • “What new behaviors will I have to learn to feel successful using or supporting the implementation of these new standards?”

Daily Reflection Journal:Engaging Your Break-Out Sessions • Personal reflections on knowledge gained during your break-out sessions. • Knowledge Gained Questions (examples) • “What three new skills have I learned?” • “What supports will I need to understand/implement the CCSS?” • “Who will I partner with in order to understand/implement/integrate the CCSS?” • “What questions do I need answered?” • “What challenges will I face with understanding/implementation/integration?”

  7. Daily Planning and Problem-Solving Sessions • School Principals and District Administrators will attend daily sessions on the planning and problem-solving process. • Principals will use this information and skill set to facilitate the daily planning sessions with the school-based teams. • Each daily planning and problem-solving session will provide you with information to support your implementation plan.

  8. District Administrators and Principals • CCSS content – awareness and understanding, implementation, integration. • Effective problem-solving and group planning. • Principals – prepared to facilitate daily SBLT planning period. • Logistics – when and where to meet • Materials – what do you need to complete the task • Process – what will the SBLT do each day

  9. Day 1 – School-Based Leadership Team • Content on awareness and understanding of CCSS. • Daily Reflection Journal – collecting information from general and specific content session for sharing out when SBLT meets. • SBLT meeting – 4:45 PM – 5:30 PM • Discuss and rate staff awareness and understanding of CCSS. • From Journal, brainstorm and reflect on top 2 things to ensure awareness and understanding of CCSS at your school. • Save responses in Survey Monkey and on planning tool.

Day 2 – School-Based Leadership Team • Content on implementationof CCSS. • Daily Reflection Journal – same. • SBLT meeting – 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM • Discuss and rate staff readiness to implement CCSS with fidelity. • From Journal, brainstorm and reflect on top 2 things to do to implement CCSS with fidelity at your school. • Save responses in Survey Monkey and on planning tool.

  11. Day 3 – School-Based Leadership Team • Content on integration of CCSS. • Daily Reflection Journal . • SBLT meeting – 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM • Discuss and rate staff integration of CCSS. • From Journal, brainstorm and reflect on top 2 things to do to integrate CCSS at your school. • Select planning targets for Day 4. • Select 2 priorities from 6 total from across the three days. • Brainstorm and list for each (2): -Resources that will facilitate completion -Barriers that will inhibit completion • Select 1 barrier for each priority and create plan on Day 4 to reduce or eliminate it. • Save responses in Survey Monkey and on planning tool.

  12. Day 4 – School-Based Leadership Team • Content on maximizing student achievement. • Daily Reflection Journal – same. • SBLT meeting – 9:15 AM – 11:15 AM • Gain consensus on 2 CCSS priorities and the selected barrier for each from Day 3. • Engage in an action planning process facilitated by your principal/leader to remove or eliminate each of the identified barriers. • Use SIP to document your action steps. • Save responses in Survey Monkey and on planning tool. • Prepare for presentation from selected schools on action plan.

  13. Summary Points • Reflecton all sessions. • Engage in daily planning with school team. • Shareresults of daily planning with district leadership to plan future support needs. • Prepare for presentation and submission of action plan.

  14. Break Time • Break time: 1:45-2:15 PM • Breakout sessions start at 2:15 PM
