  1. (8”x8”) MCPs Resistance MeasurementsOct 04, 2011 Anil Mane, Jeffrey Elam

  2. MCP resistance comparison in air vs. vacuum (Only NiCr electrode) No ALD coating only MCP data Table 1: 33mm(20micron) Table 2: Back calculation for 8”x8”(20micron) 2.5x Table 3: Back calculation for 8”x8”(40micron) Note: 1x (8”x8” MCP) = 46.8 x(33mm MCP)

  3. MCP resistance comparison in air vs. vacuum (Only NiCr electrode) No ALD coating only MCP data Actual measurements on 8”x8” MCPs (20 vs. 40 micron) Table 4: 8”x8”(20 micron) Table 5: 8”x8”(40 micron) (R40micron = 2.5R20micron) [All other parameters are same]  • Data are in-line

  4. No ALD coating only MCP data MCP resistance comparison in air vs. vacuum (Only NiCr electrode) Table 5: 8”x8”(40 micron) All the vacuum resistance data are in-line. R4033 =46.8* (R40)8x8 = 4.68M  R2033= R4033 /2.5 = 1.85M Table 5: 33mm (20 micron) Question: What makes Incom glass conducting @ 200C? (OR) Any glass will show conducting behavior @ 200C ?

  5. Thermal characteristic of 8”x8”MCP (40 micron) in vacuum: MCP process with chem-2 +ALO SEE Y-axis log scale • 8”x8” MCP resistance is very sensitive to the temperature • Question: @ 200C which conduction dominate? • a) Resistive coating= 25M-100K • b) MCP glass itself= 4.4G-100K

  6. Thermal characteristic of 8”x8”MCP (40 micron) : • Small Temperature range • Very sensitive to temperature • T for 33mm 20micron MCP = -0.033 • T for 8”x8”mm 40micron MCP = -0.056

  7. Summary • 8”x8” MCPs are very sensitive to atmosphere, ALD conditions and the temperature compare to 33mm MCPs • 25M 40micron 8”x8” MCP is available for testing. (one of the corner is broken during transfer but still good to go!!) • Need more 8”x8” MCPs with NiCr electrodes • Next plan: • ALD on 2x 20 micron 8”x8” MCPs (received form UCB) • MCP Quality ?
