The Heathrow Area Freight ForumOlympic Working Group Today’s Objectives For the cargo community to have a clear understanding the impact the Olympics will have on our business and to send out a clear message to manufacturers and Forwarders around the country that Heathrow is open for business during the games period.

  5. M4 Junction 3 • M4 access - emergency repairs • No other option for business traffic trying to access the M4 junction or trying to avoid it during games times. 3

  6. Cranford High Street • Identified as the main holding area for traffic prior to joining the M4 J3 interchange • Normal traffic is expected to queue back to Bath Road and beyond 4

  7. A312 / A30 / Green Lane junctions • As it is today this is likely to be one of the most congested junctions on the planned route. • The working group felt that this immediate area was likely to have the biggest impact on companies day to day operation with very few alternative routes 5

  8. Hatton Cross • The working group identified this junction as being one of the most difficult to avoid during peak periods • It was also identified that company premises situated on the A30 itself would have extremely difficult journey’s travelling North to come South or v.v. to gain airport access 16 October 2006 7

  9. Wider Area • Working group identified that wider area impact for businesses immediately associated with trading with the airport covered a far wider area than what’s been identified for traffic purposes. Major forwarders and Trading Estates to the South, East and North of the airport are likely to encounter major difficulties in navigating in and out of the airport, and operating in the surrounding area. 8

  13. Cycling - Road race 28th & 29th July 5th & 8th Sept Box Hill area in Surrey expecting 150,000 spectators expect impacts on A24/M25 and surrounding area

Cargo - Airport Hot spots • North side - Customs House • South side - Sandringham Road area • South side - Solent Road area (Horse Shoe) • South side - Entrance to BAWC & Servisair, VIP suite and temporary terminal • South of the river - Perimeter road to Swissport • South of the river - Swissport Terminal, Cathay Pacific Terminal, Dnata Terminal • South of the river - Access road to and from Swissport to Gibbs Corner traffic lights

  16. Changes to working practicesForwarders • At certain times Forwarders will be looking at using smaller vehicles to avoid night lorry restrictions • Possible co-loading being considered • No change to rosters • No additional agency staff • Issues will be dealt with on the day

  17. Changes to working practicesTransit Sheds and self handled airlines • No change to schedules • No change to trucking schedules • No additional staff • No change to roster’s • No idea of additional export payloads due to high passenger baggage • Issues will be dealt with on the day

Communication during the Games(Key to staying open for business)Wider area • A Twitter account has been created to distribute live updates between working group members • Use of Trade websites AOCC, BIFA and ASM available for information updates from the Twitter account • Links to TfL websites via Trade websites

Communication during the Games(Key to staying open for business)Airport • Key departure dates for competitors is 13/14/15 August - expect increased activity around the VIP suite entrance (BAWC entrance) and at the Click Car Park, South Side • Need to stay in touch with customers to understand the wider picture • Need to advise if backlogs are beginning to appear to certain destinations • Engage in twitter dialog if possible
