  2. Growing up • He lived during the time of segregation in America. He had to go to an all-black school • He loved to run . He joined the track team in high school.

  3. Competing • In 1935, he broke three world records for his speed. • He joined the 1936 Olympics. • He won 4 gold medals.

  4. Life after the Olympics/ Other Interesting facts • In 1950 he started giving speeches to young people. He wanted to teach them to live healthy lived, play fair, and honor their country. • In 1979 Jesse was given a Living Legend Award.
