  1. KC COLTS33 Stack This is an introduction to the Colt 33 Stack Defense. This presentation will cover the following topics: 1) Defensive line up against typical youth offenses. 2) Defensive responsibilities for runs and passes. 4) Position techniques. The offense is the circles. (Except for the Center he is the square) The defense is the triangles. Now lets meet the positions.

  2. KC COLTS33 Stack Nose Guard The Defensive line is made up of three players. A lot of players are under the misconception that the defensive line is not very important. In fact the defensive line controls the game. This shows the Nose Guard position. The name comes from the fact that he is in the center of the defensive line and nose up on the other teams center. Our Nose Guard is usually our best defensive lineman. He must control the two gaps on both sides of the center (the A Gap). He must attack the center and then fill the gap to the side where the ball is being run. He can key the way the quarterback is turning.

  3. KC COLTS33 Stack Ends The other defensive linemen are the defensive ends. Their man job is to attack the “c” gap (the gap between the Offensive Tackle and the End) and to control all of the off tackle plays. The ends will also run stunts with the backers.

  4. KC COLTS33 Stack Middle Backer The Middle Backer lines up behind the nose about 3 yards off the line of scrimmage. His job is to first look to attack the A gap with the nose tackle. He will provide cut back support on sweeps.

  5. KC COLTS33 Stack Outside Backers The Outside Backer lines up behind the End about 3 yards off the line of scrimmage. Their job is to first look to attack the B gap. They must also help to contain sweeps.

  6. KC COLTS33 Stack Bandit Spur These are the Spur and the Bandit. They have to be great athletes and great tacklers. They have sweep control on their side of the field. They must also stop reverses. Chase the ball from behind and help in pass coverage.

  7. KC COLTS33 Stack Corner Corner These are the Corners. They also need to be good one on one tacklers. They have sweep control on their side of the field. They must also stop reverses. They are the main pass defenders.

  8. KC COLTS33 Stack Safety This is the safety. He is the last line of defense. He must provide run and pass support.
