  2. Profile David Gray is known for his highly individual acrylics inspired by the Cornish Landscape. He was born in Coventry in 1948. He started his career as an apprentice in Mechanical Engineering working in the Drawing office as draughtsman. During this time he also studied technical Graphics at Coventry College of Art and Design. After his apprenticeship he worked for many engineering companies, as a Design Draughtsman / Illustrator. In 1970 he moved to Plymouth, and then in 1986 to St Mawes, at this time he was now working in the marine industry on the design and construction of all types of boats from Fishing, Sailing Power, Ribs and Mega Super yachts. Having always enjoying painting all his life in spare time, he decided in 2000 to take up painting full time, working from his home/studio overlooking Falmouth Bay, and also tutoring his own art class one day a week. David's painting's include mixed media and texture which continue to be important and integral elements of his work, giving a distressed appearance which is the process of applying many layers of paint, together with his influence as a graphics illustrator makes for a very distinct style.
