  4. i2Sim modelling • Sendai is a coastaltownaffectedbythe tsunami • Threesitesorzonesshall be consideredforthemodelling: Shelter Zone Evacuation Zone Impact Zone

Timeline • Timeline of eventsforthe tsunami: • To = earthquake strikes • T1 = a tsunami warningisissued • T2 = peoplefromtheimpactzone (cell 1) startevacuatingtohighergrounds (evacuationzone – cell 2) • T3 = peoplestartarriving at theevacuationzone • T4 = firts tsunami wave hits theimpactzone • T5 = tsunami waves are detroyingtheimpactzone, a fewbuildingsremain standing, people are either: trapped, safe and sound, injuredormissing • T6 = floodingstartsrecedingfromtheimpactzone • T7 = shelter and medical carezones are beingestablished at theshelterzone (cell 3) • T8 = search and rescueteams are deployedfromshelterzone • T9 = people are takenfromtheevacuationzonetotheshelterzone • T10 = people are takenfromtheimpactzonetotheshelterzone • T11 = search and rescueactivities are underwayontheimpactzone

Cell 1 – Impact zone • This cell is similar to what happened at BC-Place from the Olympic Case. • Population: casualties at 4 levels (green, yellow, red and black) that need to be rescued and transported to the shelter zone • There are also survivors • All these people need to be rescued, transported and they also need shelter • ALL THE CELLS WILL TURN FROM GREEN TO BLACK OR RED

  8. Cell 2 – Evacuation zone • This cell is similar to the waiting room at the hospitals from the Olympic Case. • Population: misplaced population that survived the tsunami from the impact zone (no injuries or casualties) • All these people need to be transported and they also need shelter

  9. Cell 3 – Shelter zone at higher grounds WATER ELECTRICITY HOSPITAL 1ST RESPONDERS SHELTER MEDICINE FOOD

  11. Suggestions • We can use the olympic case • The ambulance system can be used as the search and rescue system • BC Place can be the impact zone • The waiting room at VGH can be the evacuation zone

Timeline • Timeline of eventsforthe tsunami: • T12 = Electricity has beenrestablished (orange-yellow) • T13 = Transportation (roads and means of transportation) has beenrestablished (orange-yellow) • T14 = Cells at theimpactzone (systems) havebeenrestablished (orange-yellow) • T15 = Allthecriticalsystemshavebeenrestablished (orange-yellow) • T16 = Displaced peoplewillreturntotheir places at tyheimpactzone • T17 = Nuclear warning has beenissued, someactivities at theimpactzonewill be cancelled • T18 = Allthesystems are yellow • T19= Allthesystems are green • T20 = Businness has beenrestored at theimpactzone
