  4. Facts • Largest salamander in the world • Has a life span of 50 years! • Can last up to 30 minutes under water before surfacing for air

  6. Population Population has decreased dramatically in the past 30 years, it is still declining

Grows up to 1.8 meters • Brown or a greenish black • Skin is blotchy, rough, and wrinkly • Has a flat head and rounded snout • Aquatic • Has no gills • Eats smaller salamanders, worms, and fish • Likes cold, fast flowing water • Reproduces between August and September • Lay up to 500 eggs • Nocturnal Characteristics

  8. Conservation • Since the 1980s, 14 nature reserves have been created with a total area of more than 355,000 hectares. (Hectares- a unit of area defined as 10,000 square meters) • Mount Wuyi in China was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1999.
