  1. AMLC POLICE DEPARTMENT

  2. A presentation by Chris, Matt, Anish, and Layla

  3. TOPIC AND IDEA What did we have to do our project on and what did we choose?

  4. Topic Mr. Patricks wanted to challenge our class by making each group design a certain building that could be found in a city or town. Some groups got buildings such as condos and banks, but we were different and we were assigned to design a police station. Our idea on where to make it was simple. Using a program called Floor Planner, our group was able to design and sketch out our police station.

  5. Research . In order to correctly build a police station, we needed to do some research to figure out how much simple things of the building would work. For example, since we are building the jail in Las Vegas, we should have the jail cells a certain size and the parking lot a certain size, but we wouldn't have known that without our research...

  6. Research Our research was simple. First, we needed to know how and to where exactly design a blueprint. After tremendous amounts of Google searches, we were able to conclude that floor planner, a program that allows you to draw your design virtually, would be a good idea to use. Since, Mr. Patricks split this project into 5 parts, our group immediately started to work on part one...

  7. Part One Part One Your group should be able to figure out where you are going to design your idea. Then, it is important that you design the external and internal designs of your idea.

  8. External Design

  9. First Floor Second Floor

  10. Second Floor Research You might be wondering why we had a pool in our second floor, which was our jail cell, but because of our research we built our second floor the way it is. • Police Departments That Have Jail Cells Must Have: • A place for exercise and play for 60 minutes for the prisoners. • A minimum of 11 jail cells that hold at least 4 people each. Due to the fact that the prisoners needed 60 minutes of play and exercise, the best idea our group thought was to add a gym for the prisoners to exercise and a field that has a pool and a trampoline for prisoners to play and relax in.

  11. Part Two: Write a list of all your materials and the approximate cost. What will your total cost be? Please look at this spreadsheet I am passing out to you.

  12. Of course no one is going to read all of that, but I will briefly go over a few materials to show how our group was very accurate about materials and their costs.

  13. Part Three: Design Parking Lot And Landscaping

  14. Install parking lot in 4 cardinal directions • Must have one handicapped space for 16-25 spaces • Exceptions for police stations, hospitals, rehabilitation centers • Put three handicapped spaces and fourteen parking spaces Parking Lot Parking Lot

  15. Fourth Part: Build a futuristic version of your robot that assists in a major function in your building.

  16. Team AMLC’s Robot Purpose: To secure our police department during the days, but mainly in nights. That is why it has lights on it. What It Will Do: It will travel around the perimeter of the jail cells. If someone tries to escape, the robot would be so small, the prisoner could easily not see it or trip over it, either way alerting the police station. Further Developments: Bigger Size and LED lights. Matt will now explain step by step how we built the robot. The demonstration will start soon.

  17. CONTRACTS

  18. Major Contracts • Annual Facility Master Permit Application: This application basically allows you to have the freedom to build the building. • Electrical Permit Application: This is a permit that allows you to use electricity from the state. • Fire Review Form: This is to ensure that your building is fire safety approved. • Plumbing Permit Application: It is illegal to have an plumbing done without this permit. • Sign Permit Application: This is a building safety permit. • Safety Division Certificate Of Occupancy: It is now legal to have people come into your building. • Pool Permit: This allows you to install a pool into your building.
