  2. Do Now • On the index card, list the groups you have facilitated this school year. • Write down what’s working in your group counseling on one side, and what’s not working on the other side.

  4. Small Groups, ASCA, and RAMP • Small Group Counseling is a major component of RAMP certification • RAMP Rubric for Small Group Counseling • Multiple groups lasting 4 to 10 sessions • Small Group Results Report • Sessions are planned

  5. Small Groups – The ASCA Way • Determine the Need • Create an Action Plan • Manage and Implement • Evaluate the Impact

  6. Determine the Need • Student needs assessment • Staff needs assessment or referrals • Achievement, attendance, and discipline data

  7. Using the CCPCS Needs Assessment The highest responses were in expressing anger and communication skills. From there, look through the responses to identify students.

  8. Using Other Data 8 total students 4 with multiple Ds or Fs (names blocked for confidentiality) • Use attendance, achievement, and discipline data to spot trends • May take some digging if all the information isn’t available (ie: suspensions and referrals) Students who have a D or below in more than one class can benefit from groups on study skills, goal setting, or future planning.

Action Plan Data • Process Data • Identify the number of students who will participate. • Perception Data • Students create a tangible product that matches the learning objective • Pre- and post-tests • Outcome Data • Identify academic, attendance or behavioral data the group will impact ASCA National Model (2013)

  11. Evaluate Impact: How Are Students Different? • Perception Data: Do students, teachers, parents believe students have made progress? • Surveys andpost-tests • Outcome Data: Have grades improves? Referrals decreased? Attendance improved?

  12. Analyzing the Results Report • Were the right goals identified for the students? Did the choice of activities help support the goals? • What can be learned from analyzing the data (process, perception, and outcome)? • Reviewing the results report, what are the implications or recommendations?
