Bellwork: DOL • Retype the following sentences, correcting any errors in capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and usage. • s.e. hintons the outsiders is a heroic tale about the importance of friendship and belonging • greasers are almost like hoods we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in a while

  3. Grammar: Action Verbs • An action verb names an ____________. It can be ________________ or ________________. • EX: The white cloud floated lazily across the sky. • EX: Mary thought about the painting. • Have, has, and had are also action verbs when they name what the subject owns or holds. • EX: Jim has an entire set of Mark Twain books. • EX: Jim has experience as a character actor.

Highlight the action verb in each sentence. • Long ago, medieval knights fought battles atop powerful horses. • Lighter horses carried lords and ladies on fox hunts. • Travelers sometimes rode horses on long journeys. • Later, the wealthy traveled in horse-drawn carriages. • Farmers also relied on horses in the past. • American farms had more than 20 million horses and mules in 1900. • Today, many persons keep horses. • Children especially love shaggy, bright-eyed ponies. • Gentle Shetland ponies delight young children. • Shetlands stand only four hands (21 inches) high!

Stay Gold Movie • Collect your photos first and save them to your “My Pictures” folder. • Next, put them in order in the slideshow. • Put one line of the poem on each slide. • Retrieve the song “Stay Gold” off the R drive and add to your slideshow. • Make sure that the images you choose represent a realistic interpretation of the poem. There are multiple possible interpretations, but there are also some interpretations that don’t fit with the poem.
