Summary Observations • Condition of Federal Aid System has deteriorated every year for the past 5 years • The rate of deterioration is increasing • Great concern—deterioration of roads in fair condition • Stimulus dollars will help some, but . . . • No evidence that this trend is going to reverse itself

  10. Summary Observations • Sample of non-federal aid roads indicates conditions worse than federal aid roads • State bridge condition improving • Local bridge conditions declining • The longer we wait – the more expensive it is

  11. Opportunities • More education • More complete local road pavement condition data • Possible legislation to expand focus of AM – HB 4962 and 4963 • Predictive model results
