  4. 3. Time: • Length of a total session • Each part of a session e.g. Warm up • How this is affected by age, experience

  5. 4. Environment • Weather • Temperature • Humidity • Ground conditions • Wind speed/direction

  6. 5. Target setting • Set around the performers strengths and weaknesses • Realistic • Achievable • SMARTER model, specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timed, exciting, recorded

  7. 6. Expected outcomes Should have a back up plan, alternatives so everything • Facilities double booked • More people turn up than you thought • Equipment doesn’t arrive on time • Bad weather • Facility closed

  8. Leading a session You have to display all of the skills, qualities and responsibilities you have already looked at all of the time

  9. Demonstrate When at all possible try to demonstrate to the group what you would like them to do, you can do this yourself or use someone who is confident and skilful enough to assist you • Prior knowledge • Technically sufficient • Use of language appropriate

  10. Activity Structure PHASE 1 Always begin with a warm up • Improve oxygen supply to muscles • Reduce risk of injury • Increase mobility at a joint • Mental preparation • Increase body temperature

  11. PHASE 2 Skill introduction Related to the overall aim of the session (heading in football) Depends of the experience, skill level of group Demonstrate the skill – give key points of technique

  12. PHASE 3 Once the skill has been practised it will be time to more on with the skill, this is ‘Development of the Skill’ Getting group to progress

  13. PHASE 4a A conditioned game to really emphasise the skill introduction and development phases e.g. 3 v 3 small area short passes score a point for every 5 consecutive passes made

  14. PHASE 4b It is then usual to progress into a larger competition that resembles the actual sport or very close to it This could be 11 v 11 or 6 v 6 in a larger area to allow people more time on the ball and space whilst still playing regular rules

  15. PHASE 5 The cool down is often forgotten or perhaps not seen by those competing Activity should not just stop but gradually reduce. Allow the heart rate speed to slow This will prevent DOMS

  16. Recording • You should record your observations and ideas • Try to see as many different styles of leader as possible this will develop your own style and range of styles • Methods of recording evidence include: diary, logbook, portfolio, video, audio, observation sheet, witness statement, feedback sheet
