  1. Mark 14:53, 55, 61-68, 70-72 (NRSV) They took Jesus to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes were assembled. … Now the chief priests and the whole council were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death….

  2. Mark 14:53, 55, 61-68, 70-72 (NRSV) The high priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?" Jesus said, "I am; and ‘you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power.’ and ‘coming with the clouds of heaven.’"

  3. Mark 14:53, 55, 61-68, 70-72 (NRSV) Then the high priest tore his garments, and said, "Why do we still need witnesses? You have heard his blasphemy! What is your decision?" All of them condemned him as deserving death.

  4. Mark 14:53, 55, 61-68, 70-72 (NRSV) Some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to strike him, saying to him, "Prophesy!" The guards also took him over and beat him.

  5. Mark 14:53, 55, 61-68, 70-72 (NRSV) While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant-girls of the high priest came by. When she saw Peter warming himself, she stared at him, and said, "You also were with Jesus, the man from Nazareth."

  6. Mark 14:53, 55, 61-68, 70-72 (NRSV) But he denied it, saying, "I do not know or understand what you are talking about."… After a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, "Certainly you are one of them; for you are a Galilean."

  7. Mark 14:53, 55, 61-68, 70-72 (NRSV) But he began to curse, and he swore an oath, "I do not know this man you are talking about." At that moment the cock crowed for the second time.

  8. Mark 14:53, 55, 61-68, 70-72 (NRSV) Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said to him, "Before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times." And he broke down and wept.

  10. Psalm 88:1-4 (NRSV) O Lord, God of my salvation, when, at night, I cry out in your presence, let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry. For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. I am counted among those who go down to the Pit.

  11. Mark 14:55-56 (NIV) The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.

  12. “First they came for the Communists and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.

  13. Martin NiemöllerLutheran Pastor Then they came for the Catholics and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me and by that time there was no one left to speak up anymore.”
