Executive orders - a rule the president issues that has the force of LAW • Korematsu v US (1944) • Franklin Roosevelt issued an executive order which placed Japanese-Americans in internment camps during WWII • → the court upheld an order which restricted the civil rights of a single racial group during wartime …later determined to be Unconstitutional Executive orders

  5. They right to have confidentiality (papers, records, discussions) when discussing the nation Executive privilege

  6. Deals with foreign leaders at home and abroad • Makes foreign policy • Makes treaties (senate approves) • Appoints Ambassadors “representatives” Chief Diplomat

  8. Leader of the Armed Forces (all military) • War Powers Act • The President may send troops to war for no more than 60 days without congressional approval • (Congress is the only one who can declare war) Commander in Chief
