  2. What Is Breast Cancer? • The Most Common Cancer in the UK. • Also Known as Mammacarcinoma. • It can be of several types; however split into two major types: • Invasive- Ability to Spread outside Ducts and lobules • Non-Invasive- Does not have the ability to spread- Localized.

The Facts! • The number of people diagnosed with Breast Cancer is increasing, however survival rates are getting better! • The biggest risk factor after gender is age. 80% of breast cancers occur in women aged 50 and over. • Breast cancer also affects men, but rarely. Around 400 cases per year.

  5. The Stats! • Every Year, nearly 55,000 people are diagnosed! That’s the equivalent to 150 per day, or 1 person every 10 minutes. • 1 in 8 women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. • Almost 12,000 people die every year from Breast cancer. • There are estimated 550,000 people living in the UK who have been diagnosed. • Adults between ages 25-49, breast cancer accounts for 45% of all female cancers.

Prevention of Breast Cancer • Tamoxifen is a drug used to treat breast cancer for the past 35 years. • In 2013 Cancer Research UK gathered all results of tests to determine how effective these drugs were, they confirmed- Tamoxifen can lower your risk of breast cancer if the patient is of HIGH RISK. The trials and tests lasted 5 Years before assessment.

  8. Problems with Prevention • Tamoxifen has some rather extreme side effects! • Strokes • Blood Clots • Womb Cancer Incidence increases! • Asprin is used as a precaution by many women- however this can also have it’s toll! Stomach Ulceration etc.
