Russia - Strengths • Rich health maintenance traditions and a strong medical and kururtology science • Huge investment resources and thousands outdated health resort establishments waiting for redevelopment • Growing interest of clients in spas and healthy life style and a very young business • Wealth of medical specialists with excellent basic qualifications

  5. Russia - Weaknesses • Low percentage of the population with enough purchasing power • High prices for spa services • Almost 100% import of equipment and cosmetic products • Absence of standards and regulation for spa industry

  6. Eastern Europe • Nature and its variability • Richness of mineral springs and natural resources • Huge acceptance and interest in spas and cures • A growing tourist destination

  7. Eastern Europe • Lack of qualified personnel • Lack of lucidity of the Spa terms & lack of regulated Spa standards • Insufficient utilization of full variety of natural resources like rose oil, lavender and others for manufacturing of Spa consumables

  8. Scandinavia - Strengths • The nature and the freedom to move around • Scandinavian manpower is thought after,  good work ethics • High quality of education, competent therapists • Scandinavian design

  9. Scandinavia - Weaknesses • Employment very expensive in Scandinavia, 50% social charges on top of the salary • Low disposable income - income tax is high • Little trust in complimentary medicine from the government

South Africa- Strengths • Unique African therapies, Safari and Bush spas, African products • Great climate provides outdoor activities, mountains, game reserves, golf estates, lifestyle communities, beaches. Stunning scenery. • Development of ECO  spas • Well trained English speaking therapists • Currency exchange rate makes travel and spa visits very affordable • Affordable and expert medical care and cosmetic surgery

South Africa- Weaknesses • Shortage of staff as many new qualified therapists take off overseas, and on to cruise ships • Shortage of spa management • Many spas have been constructed/added on to existing facilities without the expertise of a  spa consultant • No thalasso spas in spite of pristine beaches and a vast coastline

  16. In 5 years... Some experts predict that the number of spas in Russia will increase by 250-300% in the near future. If there is established a mutual relationship between the state, investors and spa professionals, Russia has a great chance to become one of most developed spa countries in the world.
