What are our goals? • To provide the most appropriate academically rigorous curriculum for each student. • To make sure that each student leaves our doors with the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to be competitive in the 21st century workforce. • To make sure that each student has been guided toward choices that open every possible post-secondary door. • To ensure that all families are aware of post-secondary funding options and their requirements.

What is a Cohort? • A student’s COHORT YEAR is the year that he/she is expected to graduate from High School. • The cohort year is based on the student’s CONTRACT YEAR. • The CONTRACT YEAR is the first year the student entered 9th grade. • HS Graduation Requirements change with a student’s cohort.

Contract Year 2011 (Current 9th)Class of 2014 • 4 English • 4 Math • Algebra 1 or equivalent (EOC) • Geometry or equivalent • 3 Science • 1 World History • 1 United States History • 0.5 United States Government • 0.5 Economics • 1.0 Performing Arts* • 1.0 HOPE* • 8.0 Electives • FCAT Reading 2.0 or concordant • 2.0 GPA • 40 Community Service Hours • Computer Competency

Contract 11 Algebra EOC • Eliminates FCAT Math and Science • Grade 9 = 30% of final grade • Computer-based • May 16-20, 2011 • ESE Waivers will be available. • Everybody (6-12) in Algebra 1 or the equivalent will test • 9th graders who passed in middle school will test • Won’t go back and impact MS grades or credits • All grades count for HS Accountability and AYP

NO!! • Janie has no skills! • No Industry Certification! • 21st Century Workforce jobs will require advanced math/science/technical skills! (Maybe she should have completed a CTACE program!)

Keep Doors OPEN for our Students! • Make sure students have access to the most academically rigorous curriculum that they can complete successfully. • Offer a variety of Academic Electives that are recognized on the Comprehensive Course Directory. • Be aware of the changing Graduation Requirements. • Advise students based on their future goals, not just on HS graduation requirements. • Make sure that we involve parents, community members, mentors and all other stakeholders in our discussions and decisions. • Make sure that Professional School Counselors access all students throughout the year as part of an Comprehensive /Guidance Program, not just as part of the course selection process.
