The will of God in Christ Jesus for you • Θέλημα thelēma • a determination (properly the thing), that is, (actively) choice (specifically purpose, decree; abstractly volition) or (passively) inclination: - desire, pleasure, will. • Thayer Definition: • 1) what one wishes or has determined shall be done 1b) of what God wishes to be done by us

  6. Rejoiceχαίρω • chairō • A primary verb; to be full of “cheer”, that is, calmly happy or well off; impersonal especially as a salutation (on meeting or parting), bewell: - farewell, be glad, God speed, greeting, hail, joy (-fully), rejoice.

  7. Prayπροσεύχομαι • proseuchomai • to prayto God, that is, supplicate, worship: - pray (X earnestly, for), make prayer.

  8. Give thanksεὐχαριστέω • eucharisteō • to begrateful, that is, (actually) to expressgratitude (towards); specifically to saygrace at a meal: - (give) thank (-ful, -s).

Always, without ceasing, in all circumstances Πάντοτε pantote ἀδιαλείπτως adialeipto πᾶς pas everywhen, that is, atall times: - always (-s), ever (-more). uninterruptedly, that is, withoutomission (on an appropriate occasion): - without ceasing. Including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole: - all (manner of, means) alway (-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no (-thing), X throughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.

The will of God in Christ Jesus for you • Joy is fruit of the Spirit • But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 • For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17 • He must be our Father to hear our prayers • Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name Matthew 6:9 • We must be in Christ to give thanks • For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened Romans 1:21 • Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7 • Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 2 Corinthians 13:5

Give thanks in all circumstances – Antidote to sin • do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:6-7 • Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.Ephesians 5:4

Pray without ceasing – The Lord’s Prayer • Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.11 Give us this day our daily bread,12and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.Matthew 6:9-13

  30. Pray without ceasing – During trials • And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:39-41 • About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God … Acts 16:25

  31. Pray without ceasing - Others • For important decision Luk 6:12, Ac 1:24 • For children Mat 19:13 • praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, Ephesians 6:18 • Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Romans 8:26
