  2. BRIEFING OUTLINE PURPOSE: To provide information pertaining to the AMEDD DoD/VA Healthcare Resources Sharing Program • Program Authority and Goal • AMEDD DoD/VA Resource Sharing Approval Process • Cost Utilization

Program Authority • Title 10, United States Code, Section 1104 • Health care resources of the Department of Defense shall be shared with health-care resources of the Department of Veterans Affairs in accordance with section 8111 of Title 38. • Title 38, United States Code, Section 8111 • This law provides that the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and the Secretaries of the military departments may enter into health-care related resource sharing agreements under guidelines established jointly by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and the Secretary of Defense.

  4. Program Goal • As required in the law, these guidelines provide for sharing consistent with the health-care responsibilities of each agency so as not to adversely affect the range of services , the quality of care, or the established patient priorities. • The goal of the program is to improve the access, quality, and cost effectiveness of the health care provided by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and the Military Health System (MHS) to the beneficiaries of both Departments.
