  2. Romeo and Juliet • What do you know about the play? • Main characters? • The names of the two families involved? • What happens in the end? • Why is there a feud in the first place?

The Prologue • This tells us what is going to happen in the play. • Sort out the cards into the order you think the Prologue is written. • The clue is, that, as a sonnet, the Prologue has 14 lines, with rhyming endings every other line, ending with a rhyming couplet. • This means that the endings of every other lines rhyme.

  4. The Prologue Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona (where we lay our scene), From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life; Whose misadventured piteous overthrows Doth with their death bury their parents` strife. The fearful passage of their death-marked love, And the continuance of their parents` rage, Which but their childrens` end nought could remove, Is now the two hours` traffic of our stage; The which if you with patient ears attend, What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

  7. Homework • Who would play the characters in a new film? • Find pictures of famous people and create a poster to show who would play who in a new version of the play. • For example, Hannah Montana could play Juliet, or Gabrielle from HSM. • This is due in by Thursday 10th January.
