  1. Thing to Know About Churches in South Sudan South Sudan is the world's youngest country and also one of the most fragile countries. The cycle of war stretches back to 1950 with a small period of peace. South Sudan gained independence from Sudan for greater hope and peace. However, peace was short-lived, and the country plunged into violence again in 2013. But the South Sudan council of churches is deeply respected across the country and also well positioned to build bridges between the warring sides. The bishop of South Sudan and the catholic body worked together to diffuse violence and lay the groundwork for everlasting peace, and at the same time, they empower girls and women gender injustice done in the country. They worked together to let the people know the importance of gender justice and equity for the society and the need to help make it a reality. Global Affairs Canada recently announced $4.5 million for over five years to the South Sudan council of churches. The church council works together in South Sudan for peacebuilding and education by giving training teachers mobilizing communities to support education, and they also help in the construction of schools and building a peaceful environment in which students can thrive. In South Sudan, 87% of teachers are not properly trained, and 10% of the children complete primary school. Amid various challenges, church partners in south Sudan labor tirelessly to change these statistics. Women have been included as a key organ in the church, but because of the crisis in the country, their activities are mainly focused on promoting peace.
