  1. Fitness Why Is It So Important?

  2. What is Fitness? • Fitness simply has to do with Health. • Fitness can also be defined as the capability of the body of distributing inhaled oxygen to muscle tissue during increased physical effort.

  3. How Much Time Should I Spend On Fitness? • Fitness should be one of the most important components in every individual’s life. • It just makes you feel better. • Experts say that individuals should workout at least 30 minutes each day.

  4. Benefits of Being Fit • If you are faithful to working out 30 minutes a day you are going to build up stamina. MORE ENERGY!!! • At first working out comes of as a job, but once you have more energy it will become easier and easier. • As it gets easier, working out may appear more appealing to you.

  5. Benefits for Yourself • Working out will bring more confidence. • If you look good, you feel good. • If you are looking good and fit it will also build up your self esteem.

  6. What if I don’t Workout? • Not working out can bring all kinds of bad things. • Many people today worry about their appearance. And if you don’t workout you are not going to be happy with yours. • Being lazy is not the answer. And Either is the couch. • With working out comes weight loss. • Not working out is when the pounds start to add on.

  7. Dieting • Working out is a big part, but you aren't done yet. • With working out you need a healthy diet. • Without the diet you are not going to be seeing the results you would like. • Working out does nothing for you if you go from the gym to McDonalds or any other fast food restaurant.

  8. Setting Goals • When you work out you should be setting goals for yourself. • Join a fitness club or any kind of fitness program to help. • They should neither be too hard or too easy. • Setting high goals is not good, because they can bring negativity when they are not met. • So when setting goals make them realistic and achievable.

  9. Warming Up • Stretching is a key part when working out. • Each stretch should start of with a jog or a run, to warm up the muscles. • When stretching, be sure to hold stretch for a good 10 to 30 seconds.

  10. Importance of Stretching • You should stretch before & after every workout. • Stretching Improves Flexibility, which is important because: • It improves muscle balance. • Reduces chance of injury. • And it also reduces muscle soreness.

  11. When NOT to Stretch! • You should not stretch: • When you have a muscle or ligament strain. • Or when your muscles are hurt and shooting sharp pains. • It is also not smart to stretch after a recent fracture.

  12. Target Heart Rate Calculator • http://exercise.about.com/cs/fitnesstools/l/bl_THR.htm • The average age of a freshman is 14. • A 14 year old who does very little fitness, will have a heart rate between 82 & 103 Beats Per Minute. • A 14 year old who does higher than average fitness, will have a heart rate between 144 & 185 Beats Per Minute. • I need some volunteers to come up and use the heart rate calculator.
