  2. Did You Know? DID YOU KNOW THAT CHINA IS THE WORLD’S THIRD BIGGEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD? OR THAT CHINA INVENTED MOST OF THE EVERYDAY USES?(EVEN IF THEY’RE NOT GOOD). CHINA HAS MORE PEOPLE THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRIES ON EARTH! CHINA HAS BIRTH EVERY 1.5 SECONDS. WHEN EATING IN CHINA PEOPLE ACTUALLY DO USE CHOPSTICKS. THE MAIN LANGUAGE USED IN CHINA IS MANDARIN. MANDARIN IS THE MOST SPOKEN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD! THE YANGZHE RIVER IS THE LONGEST RIVER IN CHINA AND THE WORLD’S THIRD LONGEST. CHINA WILL SOON BECOME THE LARGEST ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!

THE OLYMPIC GAMES WERE ORGANISED AS A SUMMER SPORTS EVENT THROUGH 1920. THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE WAS FOUNDED IN 1894 ON THE INITIATIVE OF FRENCH NOBLEMAN , PIERRE FREDY, BARON DE COUBERTIN. IN 2000, THE OLYMPIC GAMES WERE HELD IN SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRAILIA. IN 2004, THE GAMESWERE HELD IN ATHENS, GREECE. OBVOUSLY THE GAMES ARE HELD IN BEIJING, CHINA. BUT LONDON, FOR THE FOURTH TIME ARE HOSTING THE GAMES IN 2012! IN 2006, THE WINTER OLYMPICS WRE HELD IN TURIN, ITALY. THE TIME BEFORE THAT THE WINTER GAMES WERE HELD IN SALT LAKE CITY UTAH, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. AKA THE USA. NZ HAS COLLECTED HEAPS OF MEDALS OVER THE YEARS.

  6. Did You Know? ICE CREAM WAS INVENTED IN CHINA AROUND 2000 BC WHEN THE CHINESE PACKED A SOFT MILK AND RICE MIXTURE IN THE SNOW. WE KNOW THAT THE CHINESE GREW RICE AS LONG AS 5000 BC. ARCHAEOLOGISTS HAVE FOUND RICE GRAINS IN FARMING TOOLS AND POTS FROM THAT PERIOD.

THE RINGS ARE INTERLACED TO SHOW THE COMING TOGETHER OR MEETING OF THE CONTINENTS AT THE OLYMPICS. THE LOGO WAS DESIGNED BY BARON PIERRE DE COUBERTIN, FOUNDER OF THE MODERN OLYMPIC GAMES, IN 1913. THE OPENING CEREMONY AND SEVERAL SPORTING EVENTS TOOK PLACE IN THE OLYMPIC STADIUM OF COLOMBOS (OFFICIAL NAME STADE OLYMPIQUE YVES-DU-MANOIR), WHICH HAD A CAPACITY OF 45,000 IN 1924.
