  1. STREET SIDE OF CURRENT BUILDING Picture of tuck pointing that has to take place every year due to the age of the building. Windows were redone less than 10 years ago making them smaller to reduce heating costs. (brown parts were how large windows were). Costs to heat the building in winter are expensive. (see next slide that shows the current boiler)

  2. BOILER ROOM Current heating system for the shop as well as heating bills for last years winter months.

  3. PARTS ROOMS The current parts room is overflowing. There are also several locations where parts, etc. are stored instead of one central location. The spool of hoses that you see above weigh close to 200 pounds each and are stored on the second level – accessed by the stairs pictured here. It is a two man job to get the spools up the stairs.

  4. REPAIR SHOP WORK BAYS With the current facility being built in 1936 when vehicles and equipment were much smaller, our storage and service bays were designed for single axle trucks. We now have mainly quad axle trucks which are approximately 10 feet longer than the single axle and approx. 3 feet wider with the plow and plow wings on.

  6. Lunchroom is located in this back corner of the shop area. LUNCHROOM The current lunchroom is located in one corner of the shop (pictures that were just shown). No tables and over 40 year old chairs along with the fumes of the shop. Obviously not sanitary or ventilated. (see open door, summer only – for ventilation & lighting)

  7. OUTSIDE BEHIND THE SHOP In the winter and summer, vehicles have to be moved out of the shop where they are stored at night and then back inside at the end of the day. While outside in the winter, trucks have to be left running all day long until they can be moved back into the shop because of their diesel motors. They are exposed to the elements of winter and summer that cause rust, fading, etc.

  8. MORE OUTSIDE PICTURES Plow attachments are kept outside in the summer and winter. Once again exposed to the elements. Our employees have to stand between the plow and truck to attach them. Of course this is on ice, snow and many times during storm conditions. The trucks sometimes have to be pulled out after attaching the plow because this is on a hill and it is too front heavy to back up properly. All of this is wasted time that they could be on the road plowing.

  10. SALT SHED AND COLD STORAGE We store our salt and the salt for the State in the same shed (above right picture). This makes keeping track of inventory a challenge. We do not have enough room in the yard for expansion and the shed is located near the river which can be a hazard for runoff. Our cold storage is also pictured above and in the next slide.

  11. MORE COLD STORAGE AREAS The cold storage area houses mowers, tires, signs, lumber, etc. We are unable to get the above message board/arrow boards in the shop as there is not enough open space.

  12. SIGN SHOP AND OIL ROOM The current oil room is unable to do oil changes on any trucks that have their equipment attached (plows, wings, etc.) because it was built for the single axle trucks. We have to dismantle the truck equipment prior to getting it serviced or do the oil change somewhere else in the building and haul the oil, etc. to the truck.

  14. BATHROOM/LOCKER ROOM The above stairs are how the employees have to access the “locker rooms” in the basement (picture on the left – hooks located in between storage of tires and misc. supplies). This is also where a two stall “men’s only” bathroom for 15 Waupaca Field employees, 10 mechanics and 7 office/foreman personnel is located.
