  1. FCEP WP1 – All the rest… Teemu Sarjovaara Jingzhou Yu Matteo Imperato Zaira Künsch Antti Elonheimo ÅA 11.12.2012

  2. WP 1.2 Optical Measurements Optical engine measurements by Elonheimo and Hulkkonen Gas jets with single hole nozzle by Jingzhou Yu (Currently at Wärtsilä) Gas jets with pintle nozzle by Zaira Künsch (ETH), on going.

  3. The New Optical Engine at Aalto University • Based on domestic AgcoSisu Power 84 diesel engine • Single cylinder • Max speed: 1500 RPM • Electro-hydraulic valve actuators • Fully adjustable valve timings and lifts • External charge air compressor • Common rail injection • Optical access through piston top and cylinder liner

  4. Key components: Piston Piston top (quartz) Piston extension (titanium) Original piston

  5. Piston window The Optical Access Window ring Piston Cylinderwindows (quartz) Mirror Camera

  6. Experimental set-up at Aalto University Electro- Hydraulic Valve Actuator Cylinder Head Liner Mechanical Shutter Piston Extension CCD Camera 45° Mirror Protection Glass Common Rail

  7. Miller tests • Load: 50% (boundary conditions) • Speed: 800 rpm • Injection Timing: 1,2 bTDC • Injection Duration: 1 ms (~5 CAD) • Injection Pressure: 464 bar • Fuel: HVO (NExBTL) • Threeintake valve timings: Normal, Miller 50, and Miller 80 • CCD Camera: 1376×1040 Pixels • Imaging through glass piston top • Lighting with LEDs • Measurements: Spray penetration and cone angle, and visible ignition

  8. Pictures from the Miller tests (Normal timing)

  9. Measurements by Yu PLIF method Hoerbiger gas injector • Single hole (0,5mm) Nitrogen acetone mixture Result will be presented in SAE WC 2013

  10. Measurements by Künsch PLIF method Pinttle nozzle • Siemens pietzo injector for DI gasoline engines Nitrogen acetone mixture Diploma Thesis Will be finished early 2013

  11. p_inj = 10 bar p_inj = 20 bar p_inj = 30 bar 2.0 ms 2.5 ms 3.5 ms

  12. WP 1.3Extreme Value Research Single cylinder turbo charging model development by Jussi Nurmiranta (Currently at Wärtsilä) Seizure with EVE engine in January 2012 (not FCEP tests) suspended the engine running for whole spring 2012 Engine was back in running condition in July 2012 FCEP test runs continued in November • 300 bar injection parameter study (finished) • Pilot injection study (on-going)
