  1. CORE 1:ProjectManagement Implementing

  2. The fourth stage of the SDLC is where the new system is installed and commences operation. The old system ceases operation and is replaced with the new. implementing

  3. There are different methods of conversion from old to new systems but typically there are a common set of steps outlined within an implementation plan. These include… • Installing network cabling and outside communication lines • Acquiring and installing new hardware and software • Configuring the new hardware • Installing and configuring the software • Converting data from the old system to the new • Training users and participants implementing

  4. A typical implementation plan should consider and document, in advance, solutions to the following questions: • How and when will the participants be trained? • What conversion method will be used? • How will the system be tested? • Conversion of data for the new system implementing

  5. Methods of Conversion There are a number of methods of introducing a new system and each of these are suited to different circumstances. We will consider four. • Direct conversion • Parallel conversion • Phased conversion • Pilot conversion implementing

  6. DIRECT CONVERSION This method involves the old system being switched off and the new system being switched on at a single point in time. Implementing// Direct Conv.

  7. PARRALLEL CONVERSION This method involves operating both the old and the new systems together for a period of time. Implementing// PARRALLEL Conv.

  8. PHASED CONVERSION Phased involves converting from an old system to a new system with a gradual introduction of the new as the old is progressively disabled. Implementing// PHASED Conv.

  9. PILOT CONVERSION This method involves the new system being installed for a small number of users. These users learn and evaluate the new system. Implementing// pilot Conv.

  10. Implementing Training for Participants and Users Successful training requires motivated and engaged learners. The best trainers, with fantastic delivery and material, will fail if leaners are not motivated. Learners will be motivated if they are… • Open to change • Understand the new system will meet their needs • Have provided input into the SDLC • Have an overall view of the larger context of the system implementing

  11. Implementing Training for Participants and Users If we assume that learners are motivated then the following training techniques can be used… • Traditional group training sessions – An outsourced trainer is contracted to come in and explain the new system to its participants. This may sometimes be a system user. • Peer training – As the name suggests, some of the more willing participants are taught how to use the new system, this knowledge is then passed on by them to the other participants. implementing

  12. Implementing Training for Participants and Users • Online training such as tutorials and help systems – These online step-by-step walk-throughs, or tutorials, allow for people to learn on their own, at their own pace. • Operation manuals – Operation manuals are distributed during the implementation of the new system. These contain procedural information and are similar to online tutorials, only a lot more professional, and are in hard-copy form. implementing
