  1. Expression data from Arabidopsis thaliana (Ler) rosette leaves treated with paraquat Hollie Harvey, Hong Lin, Lukas Lis, Peter O’Kane, Sophie Warner Introduction Paraquat (N,N′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium dichloride) is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. The compound inhibits photosynthesis by accepting electrons from Fd (photosystem I), transferring them to oxygen and forming reactive oxygen species. • Materials & Methods • A.thaliana plants (3 weeks old) • Sprayed with 20µM paraquat (control = 0.1% Tween), • Harvested after 1, 2 and 4h, • RNA extraction & RT to cDNA, • Hybridized on Affimetrix ATH1 microarrays • Data was statistically analysed using R Bioconductor and Partek Results - Partek Results – R Bioconductor • Conclusions • Gene expression was significantly different for different treatments and for different time periods. • Time had a larger effect on gene expression than type of treatment. • ANOVA showed an interaction between the two factors • Bioconductor and Partek provided similar conclusions www.nottingham.ac.uk
