  3. This is where helpless slaves had to work.

  4. You are on the plantation and you hear singing about running away. • Do you go ? Do you stay?

  5. You think the freedom isn’t worth the danger. You decide to stay at the plantation. You die a slave.

  6. You wait until night fall then you quietly sneak out and start heading South. Around the river Through the woods

  7. You’re in the woods and you can’t find water! You are incredibly thirsty. Do you go on? Or Go Back?

  8. You decide to go around the river and into the bushes. You hear bloodhounds. They see you and then you are returned to your master. You die a slave.

  9. You went in the woods and find a little pond of water and realize you made the right choice.

  10. Phrases “The wind blows in the South today’’ is, A warning to Underground Railroad workers that fugitive slaves were in the area. “When the sun comes back and the first quail calls” is, A particular time of year good for escaping [early spring].   11. Do you run into the bushes away from the river? • Do you head down stream? • Do you climb a tree? You’re drinking water and you hear something.

  12. Heading Down the Stream You start to head down the stream. The slave hunters see you. You start running. They catch you and return you to your owner. You die a slave.

  13. You climb a tree and hide behind some leaves. You see some slave hunters but they pass by because they didn’t see you.

  14. It turns night. Do you keep going? Do you stay where you are, rest and hide?

  15. William Still William Still was a free black man who lived in Philadelphia. He helped slaves who stayed in Philadelphia and slaves who continued on to Canada. He wrotea book called the Underground Rail Road. It contained letters from fugitive slaves and people who helped on the Underground Railroad.

  17. Keep Going! It’s morning and you see a person. It turns out a station master found you (safe house person).

  18. Help You see the station master and explain that you’re a friend of a friend. They say they will take you to a station on the Freedom Train.

  19. Did you know that Harriet Tubman was called “Moses”? • She was also a conductor on the Underground Railroad • Also, Baggage was just a code word for escaping slaves • Shepherds was also just a code word for people escorting slaves

  20. They take you to their house and they say that Moses was looking for baggage. You say that you aren’t going to Canada you’re just going to the Bahamas. They say, “But first you need to cross a river.” There are 2 rivers but they don’t remember the one you need to cross. Do you cross river #1 Or River #2

  21. Only 3 minutes of in the long river and you realize that you should gone in river #2. There’s one problem, you got lost and can’t find your way back. You, all of a sudden, say it’s hopeless and go home to the plantation.

  22. You go to river #2. It turns out that river #2 is actually the ocean that surrounds the Bahamas. River #2

  23. Thomas Garrett Thomas Garrett was a Quaker from Wilmington, Delaware. Harriet Tubman worked with him. Conductors on the Underground Railroad brought fugitive slaves to his house.

  24. You decide to get a downed tree and carve it with a rock into a boat

  25. Soon you will be in the Bahamas. You are so excited. First, you still need to get there…. Then all of a sudden you see a shark! Or at least you think it’s a shark…. It may be a log. Do you go on or Go back Floating to the Bahamas!

  26. Fredrick Douglas Fredrick Douglas was born in Tuckahoe, Maryland. Thename his master gave him was Fredrick Augustus Washington Bailey. When he was eight years old his master sent him to live in Baltimore with the Auld Family. There they taught him how to read and write.

  27. You decide to keep going. You made a good choice. Instead of a shark it was just a log. Keep Going

  28. Harriet Tubman Harriet Tubman was born a slave near Cambridge, Maryland. After she escaped and went to freedom she came back and became a conductor on the Underground Railroad. She traveled through fields and the woods. Most of the time she traveled at night time because it was darker.
