  3. The Campus Designed to promote pride of place and the interaction of students and teachers, the new Peachtree Charter Middle School contains 147,300 square feet with 71 instructional units and a full time enrollment capacity of 1,150 students. The building is organized around the center of a 29-acre site where the original school once stood. Although completed as one project, the construction of the new Peachtree Middle School required several phases in order to maintain operations of the existing school during construction. Careful collaboration between contractor, owner and architect was required to maintain a safe and productive environment for the school’s staff and students.

  4. A Place in the Community Initial participation of the surrounding community was paramount to the success of the project and support from the community. The architect coordinated meetings with the community; working together to build consensus of the program, site and building design. It was through these meetings that the design developed into a true community focal point.

  5. Entrance outdoor spaces such as those at the canopies promote a similar feature and permit space for staff and students to interact with each other.

  6. Outdoor Courtyard Classrooms form around an interior courtyard that can be used as an outdoor classroom. This provided for a compact design and at the same time permit all classrooms to have natural light and views to an intimate outdoor space.

  7. View to the Courtyards Through the use of varied volumes of space, color, shapes, materials, texture and way finding, this school creates a special environment for learning and positive interaction.

  8. Library Special attention was given to providing multiple ceiling heights and sloping ceilings through out the school to give the children a more dynamic experience as they travel through out the building each day. Through the use of varied volumes of space, color, shapes, materials, texture and way finding, this school creates a special environment for learning and positive interaction.

  9. Classrooms Natural light is the cornerstone of the design with generous windows for classrooms and other educational spaces.

  10. Music Room The music room is an example of several unique spaces within the school. These spaces vary the classroom design and offer students creative learning activities. Many spaces such as the gymnasium, cafeteria, music room and media center have beautiful arched windows to accent the design and highlight significant spaces.

  11. Engaging Spaces The interiors are punctuated with bright colors, which dedicate a specific color to each grade. The colors are blended together in designed patterns in public spaces such as the cafeteria and multi-purpose room.

  12. Gymnasium The gymnasium is one of many areas within the school that promote interaction.
