Phishing • Phishing is when fraudsters send spam or pop-up messages to get your personal information • They usually send it from businesses or organizations that you would usually deal with asking you to update or verify your information… something that the actual companies would never do • If you have one of these viruses on your computer send it to spam@vce.gov

  3. Spyware • This type of virus monitors or controls your computer • It may send you pop-up ads, redirect you to sites you don’t want to go to, monitor your internet surfing, or even record your keystrokes which may lead to the theft of your password and information

  4. Password Protection • Keep passwords in a secure place • It should be at least 8 characters including letters, numbers, & symbols. The longer it is the better • Don’t use common words found in a dictionary • Don’t use personal information, your login name, or adjacent keys on the keyboard as passwords

  5. Anti-Virus • Anti-virus: protects you from viruses that delete data, slow performance, or allow emails through your account • It scans your computer and email for viruses then deletes those viruses • It also works better if it updates regularly ANTI-VIRUS

  6. Social Networking Safety • Don’t post information you don’t want the world to know • Find out how different sites work before you join • Restrict access to your page • Keep your full name, social security number, address, phone number, and bank or credit card account numbers to yourself • Make sure your screen name doesn’t say too much about you • Post only information you are comfortable with others seeing and knowing • Don’t post your photo • Don’t flirt with strangers • Try not to meet online friends offline • Trust your gut suspicions I’m here to ruin you.
