  4. Extension task Some diseases can be tackled by using antibiotics and vaccination. Explain how the MRSA bacterium has developed resistance to antibiotics. 5 marks Highlight the answer to show where you think the marks will be given.

  5. Mutation (caused by change in the genetic code) • Some bacteria are more resistant to antibiotics. • These bacteria no longer respond to antibiotics. • The more resistant bacteria divide and multiply. • A new resistant strain has been formed.
