  1. Introducing SDERA, the SFWMD's new survey database! The Survey Data Entry & Retrieval Application (SDERA) The authoritative “single source” for District vertical data A web based, publicly accessible survey database. **** Vertical Data Conversion Application (VDCA) Provides elevation conversions By: Mike Horan Sr., PSM, PMP Lead Project Manager - Vertical Datum Upgrade South Florida Water Management District Everglades Restoration and Capital Projects Survey Section 561-682-2642

  2. Introducing SDERA, the SFWMD's new survey database! Starting in October 2010, Surveyors contracted by the South Florida Water Management District (District) will be required to enter certain data directly into SDERA, a publicly accessible, relational survey database. Users can search District survey records using multiple query strings; SDERA’s Audit Trail safeguards data integrity by maintaining a secure, permanent record of changes. We hope you’ll find SDERA to be an asset in your arsenal of surveying tools. Our customers have provided valuable feedback! Next year we are planning enhancements to SDERA’s functionality. Please check back for updates.Thanks-

  3. We’re happy to introduce SDERA, our new survey data base! SDERA’s requirements mandate a single, authoritative source for the District’s vertical data. In the next few years, District IT systems will integrate with the Vertical Datum Conversion Application (VDCA) and SDERA to accomplish this goal. When a vertical conversion is requested, VDCA queries SDERA to obtain the highest quality vertical offset solution for a given horizontal location. If a high precision vertical survey is within a specified proximity, that vertical offset will be used by VDCA. If no survey exists, VDCA will extrapolating a vertical offset from a existing vertical grid. As SDERA is populated with high order vertical surveys, VDCA has more data to consider for a vertical datum conversion. The next slide shows how that will work.

  21. Zoom In/Out, Pan, Extents, Coordinates, Control Points, Surveys, Zoom by Area, Map Information, Layers, Clear & Help Layers & Search *A layer must be checked “on” to return search results

  22. Search S/T/R, X/Y, Lat/Long, Feature, Proximity Warning: Search by latitude/longitude" requires the user to enter a location in decimal degrees. You can tell that wasn’t done by a surveyor. It will be fixed.

  23. After login, “Submissions” is visible. Management & Admin are reserved. This template is for adding a survey. Fields with an arrow on the right have pull down data, other fields are completed by the surveyor. After completing all data fields, click submit. Data is routed to the designated District Data Manager

  24. This template is for adding a control point. Notice that all fields other than “Designation” are grayed out until the point is validated.

  25. Control Point Entry: First, SDERA will verify that the control point doesn’t already exist. If it doesn’t you’re allowed to continue. These fields should look familiar because they’re going to be populated with data you already provide!

  26. This template is for adding supplemental files. Most of the fields are pull down. Click on the select files tab to navigate to the files you wish to upload.

  30. Identifying Point Data using the Control Point Icon Double click on the Control Point Icon.

  31. Survey Point Info Icon Double click on the point Prime ID to bring up control point data for point N513

  32. Data for control Point N513 is displayed.

  33. Double click the “Coordinate” icon and pick any point on the map to display coordinates. Click Lat/Long to display (*it’s in decimal degrees). Click “Offset” to see vertical datum offset and how the conversion was made. In this case the VERTCON grid was used.

  35. Vertical Datum Conversion Tools • Point • Block • Time Series Example: • LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) ( 4.5 Million Points processed in 5.6 hours )

  36. Enter X/Y or lat / long. *Beware – currently the lat/long have to be entered in decimal degrees! The input format will be changed to accept degrees minutes and seconds in a future release.
