  4. 18 November 2003 ARDEC Providing America Advanced Armaments for Peace and War Joint Service Small Arms Master Plan (JSSAMP) Vision: Evolve the current large number of disparate current systems into a family of new weapons with common parts and modules The next generation systems will include more lethal air bursting systems and lightweight weapons and ammunition

  5. ARDEC Providing America Advanced Armaments for Peace and War Joint Service Small Arms Master Plan (JSSAMP) Transformation Strategy • Army – Improved lethality of small arms while simultaneously reducing their weight to enhance soldier lethality and mobility (Land Warrior Block III). • USMC – more lethal and longer range fires and lighter ammunition to facilitate increased mobility and allow for a reduce logistic tail (Operational Maneuver from the Sea) • Air Force – Longer range, greater lethality and reduced logistics tail (Integrated Base Defense Plan) • Navy – Upgraded force protection and anti terrorist capabilities (CNO Sea Shield 21, Task Force Hip Pocket)

  6. ARDEC Providing America Advanced Armaments for Peace and War Joint Service Small Arms Master Plan (JSSAMP) Fielding in the Near Term (next 8 years) • Improvements in the performance of lethal, non-lethal and training ammunition. • Advanced technologies in lightweight munitions and mechanisms, optics and micro-electronics will transition to the SDD • Initial fielding of the next generation family of small arms: - Objective Individual Combat Weapon (XM25/29) - Objective Crew Served Weapon (XM307/XM312) - Advanced Lightweight Grenade Launcher (MK47) - Future Combat Rifle (XM8/SCAR) - Sniper Weapon (M107).

  7. ARDEC Providing America Advanced Armaments for Peace and War Joint Service Small Arms Master Plan (JSSAMP) Fielding in the Mid-Term (8-15 years) • Bursting munitions will provide leap ahead in lethality and overmatch capability • Development and fielding of lightweight munitions and a family of weapons • Embeddedtraining and training simulators • Direct view optics, lightweight uncooled thermal sights, multifunctional laser pointers, microelectro-mechanical systems, nano explosives and advanced shape charges • Block upgrades to the OICW, OCSW, MK47, etc. • Fire-on-the-move and remote operation capabilities for mobile platforms • A sniper weapon family will be developed with increased range and capable of operating all type of environment at no extra weight.

  8. ARDEC Providing America Advanced Armaments for Peace and War Joint Service Small Arms Master Plan (JSSAMP) Fielding in the Far-Term (Beyond 15 years) • Replace large number of currentweapons with the next generation family • The quest for further increase in lethality and the pursuit of tunable and scalable target effects will continue • Continue to monitor and assess technologies being developed by Government, industry and academia.
