  4. Questions and Answers for Distance Education • Who sets standards/regulation for real estate courses online? • ARELLO – The Association of Real Estate License Law Officials VanEd is an affiliate member of ARELLO

  5. Distance Education Vs. Traditional Classroom • Is distance learning a credible way to educate?

  6. Distance Education Performance in “Six States” • Over the past year: • broker candidates from correspondence schools had a passing rate approximately five percentage points higher than candidates from traditional schools (based on approximately 700 correspondence candidates and 6700 traditional candidates) • salesperson candidates from correspondence schools had a passing rate of approximately ten percentage points higher than candidates from traditional schools (based on approximately 3500 correspondence candidates and 60000 traditional candidates) • Currently there is no data regarding the success rate for online Continuing Education students. VanEd works closely with our student members to ensure their ultimate success using our advanced LMS, or Learning Management System.

  7. Distance Education Issues • How will a student get a question answered? • How will an instructor interact with the student or vice versa? • Instructors are readily available via email, online Q&As and by telephone! • One of most popular myths in distance education today is that INSTRUCTORS AREN’T NEEDED.

  8. Issues in Distance EducationContinued… • How will a course orientation be administered? • Full course navigation instruction is always available online • How will assessment and evaluation be done? • Student surveys and instructor reviews are required for every course

  11. The Economics of DECan I Make Any Money At This? • What are providers charging? • CE Courses - $10 per clock hour (Typical 3 to 4 hour course.) Some providers are offering discount education as low as $4.50 per hour. • Prelicense - $5 per clock hour of instruction (Typical 60 hour course. On average, the higher number of hours, the lower the price.)

The Economics of DECan we make money at this? • What will it cost to develop a distance education course? • Depends on the delivery method • Approximately $13,000 per clock hour of instruction for automated courses. • Costs decrease relatively for subsequent courses. • Development costs should include considerations for the LMS (Learning Management System).
