Mock Assignment • Mirrors the real exam. • Two parts to the mock exam, just like the real exam. • Part 1: • A 30 question MCQ test to be completed by using the VLE. • Part 2: • A database exercise of searching two bibliographical databases. • Create a Word document - copy, paste and format the information into the Word document then e-mailing to a specified e-mail address.

  4. Mock Assignment • Duration of assignment – 1 hour • We suggest you spend: • About 30 minutes multiple choice questions • About 30 minutes on the clinical question • It doesn’t matter which you do first

  5. Mock Assignment • The Multiple Choice Questions: Relate to the computer skills & information resources studied in this module: • There are four possible answers, one of which is correct • Tick the one you think is most correct

  6. Mock Assignment • The Database Exercise: You will be given a clinical question to answer by searchingtwo of the databases you have used in this module. Find a reference in each database which will answer the clinical question. • Open, save and complete a word document containing the answers to your Clinical Question . • You can use copy and paste, to fill in the information requested, format the document so it is readable. • Having done this you will attach the document to an e-mail and send it to a specified e-mail address

  7. You will be able to choose which part to do first You will not be able to use your workbooks in the mock (or real) exam. Logon to the VLE Click on the assignment button then the ‘MCQ mock test’ link You will then be required to enter a exam password Given to you at the start of the session It will be different for each group Mock Assignment

  8. Read the Clinical Question, conduct a search and create a Word document. Make sure you save the document to your computer. E-mail the database exercise to the e-mail address at the bottom of the Clinical Question Panel. Answer the 30 MCQ questions. Do: Include a header & footer An e-mail message (without your name) Don’t: Include your name Assignment requirements for our module

Marking Criteria • 30% for MCQ. 1 mark per question • 70% for database exam – split 45/25 as follows: • 45% for the database search • 10% Correct site found • 5% Name of database • 10% Full reference i.e. author, title, publisher, year, part, pages (where applicable) • 10%} 5% Search terms used+ 5% if boolean operator used • 10% Conclusion • 25% for the word processing • 5% for copy+paste & saving work • 10% header & footer (5% candidate no. – 5% page no. macro) • 5% format & layout • 5% e-mail message & attachment.

  10. Marking Criteria • The pass mark is 35% • If you don’t pass the actual exam you can take this exam again with the next cohort

  11. Marking of Mock Exam • The VLE will mark the MCQ part. • Results will be released (into the VLE grade book) by 5pm 3th March. • The database exercise will not be marked but Karen to give feedback in Lecture 10a. • An example will be provided of how the clinical question should be answered.

  12. Additional comments: • Please be silent and respect your colleagues • Exam conditions observed i.e. no material may be taken into the room • Turn off your phones • If the computer or the VLE goes wrong, put your hand up – we can reset the MCQ test
